Today I was doing some audio test with my hifi stereo after I hade changed interconnects.
I decided to play my R7G to see everything was up to task?

I inserted an LD in the tray and closed with remote, when tray was inside the player, it start to make some moaning sound then moaning went away after some 30 seconds ??
I ejected the tray again and shut it, no moaning sound.
I played the whole disc without issues.

When movie ended I ejected the tray with remote, no problem.
After removing disc and hit close button the tray wouldn't close with remote control nothing happened, tray wouldn't go in, I had to close tray from my player's open/close button.

I replaced my batteries but didn't help at all.

Would this be a slipping belt issue?
Moaning noise is that from belt slipping around it's pulleys?

The moaning would be the belt needing replacement.

For the remote, could be the receiving diode on the player front blocked or the remote button being intermittent.

Replacing belt shouldn't be so difficult would it?
Pull off cover, open the tray, turn player OFF with tray still sticking out.
Then with thick fingers pulling off the old belt, clean pulleys with IPA cleaner and Q-tip.

I have a replacement belt for an other player DVL-909 from 1998.
Don't know if it fits my CLD-R7G?
Perhaps machines use different sized belts?


If remote has individual issues, can these be repaired?
Problems with remote control giving non responsive commands occured when player made moaning sounds the first time a few days ago.
Before that both RC and LD player worked perfectly.
My machine is in nice condition, never been serviced before has not been abused before to be in tatty condition for it's age.

The belt is the same between those units. Just retry the remote after the belt is replaced.

Will do some further playback tests if I hear the same moaning noise again before I open my player and replace the belt.

What kind of grease do you recommend for plastic gear parts and sliding rails?
For old grease removal what can I use?
I have plenty of chamois swabs for VHS drum cleaning, would same swabs work to remove dried grease?

Always use a high speed silicone grease but unless this was in a dirty location the grease should be fine. The grease issues are with older players.

Player is from late 90's if I'm not wrong?
Lubrication doesn't go bad into muck or dry out in normal room temperature at home after many years of use?

Player is in clean condition visually assume it's still clean inside aswell no exposure to dusty enviroment?

The white silicon grease will work for a long time, older players used a different grease that would turn thick over many years.

If you replace the belt and it works just enjoy it.

I checked my stash of parts today.

I found two new Pioneer belts VEB1184 at home.
This belt is for DVL-909.
Just to confirm, this should fit CLD-R7G tray operating without problems ?

If I remember correct other people had also recommeneded SCQ4.0 or SCQ3.6 (SCQ3.8)
These are aftermarket belts?

When I fit the belt I shouldn't stretch it when I fit it?


I also found four new Pioneer M-holders VNL 1779, version black.
This part is not an issue on 909 and R7G?

Pioneer does not make their own belts, they source them thru companies that make belts. The VEB1184 works for all the LD and DVL players starting with the CLD-D503 and D703 and all the newer players like the R7G.

The VNL1779 is the Mholder you should buy to put in your R7G.

This is what I will do before I open my player, will look for Youtube videos "how to replace loading belt" just to get an idea of the replacement procedure.

The 4x M-holders I did buy them long time ago.
I know previous versions were grey and got brittle with time.
Black M-holders had updated plastic material?

If I remember correct I think my R7G was a late model 1998 or 1999 last time I checked serial number on LDDB?
Later model CLD players from 1997 should have revised black M-holders?

I have a repair guy who fix my gear.
Would it be wise to take my player to my tech guy and let him check all caps if any need replacement as an overhaul?
LD players are very old now and caps do go bad and need replacement from time to time.
I haven't noticed any other issues with my player besides loading belt.
I know about don't touch it if it ain't broken.

The black m-holders from Pioneer are significantly better than the grey ones. There are also some third-party 3D printed m-holders available, in a pinch. I've found them on ebay.

I'm covered for a few years if M-Holder breaks?

Hoepfully I will get my belt replaced over X-mas weekend?
