I recently moved and turned my rebuilt laser disc player on (rebuilt about 3 years ago fully before I bought it). It immediately started making a click click click click noise and eventually displays an E3 error. I took the top off and it looks like the laser mechanism is stuck in the forward position. The grooved wheel that moves the mechanism is on the track but is not fully connecting, or slipping, I suppose. Is the laser too high up to connect?

I have attached a picture showing where it's slipping at. Can someone guide me on repairing this? Thanks.

Power off the unit, put you finger large gear and rotate it to move it toward the back of the unit. The CD position switch sensor failed and the laser is still trying to move forward to open the switch.

Thanks, I have attempted to do this but the gear is either not making purchase or is stuck - it moved maybe an inch to the back and then is stuck again when I turn it on.

I was able to fix it! A black arm like part was caught on the laser somehow and causing it to not move back. I fixed it by gingerly pulling the plastic "arm" piece off the laser assembly, which freed it to move.

Picture shows what I moved and from where. If your laser disc sounds like a machine gun when turned on, this may be why...

If it were my decision I'd remove all those CD/LD tray selector arms from all CLD/DVL machines as they cause multiple issues and having a CD tray was just a gimmick to get people to buy laserdisc players. Just open the LD tray and put in your CD as was done in the many years before the CLD-D503/703.
