Hi, I have a CLD-D704 that I'm trying to troubleshoot.
The audio has become extremely quiet, to the point it is so quiet you can barely hear it with the TV volume turned up to 100%.
Everything else on this player works perfect, except for the low audio issue.
This happened after my family moved and perhaps the road vibrations caused an issue with this player (my other players arrived ok).
I've checked all the settings and can't find anything that solves it.
I tried making sure all the internal cable connections are plugged in tight & don't see anything visually disturbed on the boards.
I'm not technically savvy enough to diagnose the audio board myself, but I've debated just taking a chance on replacing the audio board with this one since the part number matches the manual: https://instrumentalparts.com/af-amp-assy-vwv1419/
Does anyone have any other suggestions for diagnosing the audio for this model?
I love this player and don't want to give up on it, I've owned it for 20 years!
Thanks everyone!!!

Hi. Could I just ask if this audio problem is with analog or digital or both, and/or from which outputs e.g. toslink, coaxial, phono etc.

More details:
I have tried both the #1 and #2 RCA audio outputs only (I don't have a dolby digital setup etc to test the other connections).
The audio is low on any channel selected through the remote control (analog L/R, digital L/R etc).
I also tested an audio CD and it had the same low audio issue as playing a laserdisc
I have considered getting some headphones to try the headphone jack as part of the diagnosis but haven't done that yet, that may be a next step.

Did you check to see if the digital level control setting had been inadvertently adjusted, I’m not familiar with the 704 but the very similar European CLD-2950 which I own has this function available via the remote. If so the button should be marked D-Level CTRL or similar, press that then adjustment is made via the jog/shuttle wheel using the onscreen display.

Hi, yes this player has the D-Level control. I've tried turning it up to maximum but the audio is still low where it can barely be heard.

The mute signal may be going bad, it's made to mute sound when no disc audio is detected. Other issue could be the Voltage levels on the audio board. But I would start by looking at the mute signal.

Thanks for the info!
*************************
Can the audio board itself possibly be shipped to someone for testing/repair, or would it have to be installed in the player for that diagnosis?
The reason I ask is I've never successfully received a laserdisc player via shipment without damage so would just like to mail the audio board if that's something that can be done.
There's nobody in my region that will work on it.
****************************
Here is the further diagnosis I was able to look into:
I tried checking the location for the mute signal and could not find anything visually wrong.
I tried unplugging & plugging back in the ribbon cable at the mute location also.
If the audio board voltage has decreased I don't have a way to test for that.
There is a board that sits below the audio board where they connect via ribbon cables, but I could not find anything visually wrong with that board either.
I checked all the ribbon cable connections and they seem intact/tight.
I tried plugging headphones at the front headphone jack but couldn't hear anything.
The player continues to deliver extremely low audio when plugged into a TV or receiver.
****************************
Also the player just now has become slow to respond on opening it's tray.
This may just be a belt, but this player seems like it may be on its way to becoming a spare parts player...
