So after having gotten the girlfriend’s player working, I got a bug in me to try my hand at another unit. Purchased a CLD-D702 off eBay for cheap with the original problem being that the tray wouldn’t eject. Got that figured out pretty quickly but once I was able to put a laserdisc in, the laser will move towards the front of the unit and back to scan and the laser moves up and down to read but it won’t register that the disc is there. Tried with a cd as well and same exact thing. I’ve cleaned the lens and have a replacement belt coming for the unit. Also, I’ll be taking the top part of the clamper section off to clean up and put fresh grease on so it operates more smoothly. Once again, thanks for any and all help. These forums have been incredibly useful for looking over old posts repairs. |

If the laser is moving into the LD and CD search positions and you see the laser moving up and down then it's not a belt. When the laser lens moves up and down and the electronics does not receive a reflection back then either the laser is bad or something in the electronics is bad. You have to connect an oscilloscope the the RF test point and see if you see a quick small single pulse returned as the laser lens moves. That will tell you where to start looking. |
