So today I had an R7G delivered. The packaging was in excellent condition, double boxed with plenty of cushioning. I lifted out the player and heard a clunking sound inside. I opened the top to see the laser assembly freefloating inside of the player for who knows how long. The player was verified to have worked and was thoroughly pristine inside otherwise.

I managed to secure the laser assembly back in place. The tray opened and it would load a disc, but not recognize it. Now operation is erratic, with E0, E4, and E5 errors appearing at random. Any other thoughts on this? I have a claim filed with the shipper, but am still hoping to get this player back in working order.

... which means, the optical block motor holder is likely broken.

The CLD-R7G has a specific type that is held by a specific piece of plastic that breaks under stress (such as a rough shipping journey).

This video shows where it is:

But it basically says the player was damaged during shipping...

Appreciate the quick responses.

I'm looking at ordering a 'Pioneer VNL1779 Equivalent'. I also noticed the ribbon cable was in rough shape, and I had difficulty reconnecting it. Is there an equivalent cable I should be looking for as a replacement?

Editing to Add:

The plot thickens. I reopened the player tonight and it appears that the mhold is an aftermarket part. I checked for cracks or other damage and there was none apparent. I couldn't get the gears to spin at all though. Unknown if the mhold or the gears are faulty.

Well, after a week of the replacement Mholder getting rerouted, it arrived today. I installed it to the best of my ability. Verified that the wheels were turning. Powered up, and immediately received an E0, followed by a piece breaking off the Mholder along with the larger cogwheel. I've hit the limit of my technical skill and am unsure where to proceed from here.

As of right now, I'm scheduling repairs for it, so I'm hoping to have it back in order shortly.
