Ok guys so im new arround here, and somewhat new to the LD scene, i already introduced myself in the welcome section, so today i got my first LD player, a Pioneer CLD-1750, Laserdisc players are hard to find where i live so this one is the only chance i will get to truly start watching LDs so the problem is.

The disc starts to play fine but when i try to search for the next chapter the laser starts trying to read the disc and in the process hitting it i assume that this may be a common problem on this type of equipment even cd players with time their motor base (where the cd sits in) it starts to lose height and soon the laser will either stop reading discs or starts hitting then.

The LD player works fine with cd's only LD's have this problem.

So what advice can you give to this newbie?

Thank you

EDIT: ok so since i only have one movie on LD i was trying to test the player with disc 1 and side 1 but then i read something about warped discs (something im used to hapen since i buy vinyl records) so i tried disc two and it worked fine, i also tried the side 2 from disc 1 and it also played fine only side 1 from disc 1 is giving me that problem. is the disc warped? or is something else?

Also my player came without the remote how can i find if a remote is compatible with my player?

You can check the warpage of the disc by setting it down on a flat glass table or any flat surface really and looking at it from the sides. If side 2 plays okay, and not side 1, then maybe it's a problem with side 1 only, and not a warpage issue. Maybe just replace that disc.

As far as a remote, nearly any Pioneer standard LD remote will work. The DVL series of remotes won't. The remotes for the CLD-D406, 504, 505, 604, & 605 will work but not the tray eject button.

Here's the thread that has many of the players remotes listed via an external link:

If you find a remote in the USA, it can be shipped to you for about $10 US for 1st class package or $18 US for Priority Mail box. Just look for a cheaper one, it will work as good as an expensive one.
