I bought my first Laserdisc player this week - a Pioneer CLD-1750.
I am playing laserdiscs connected to my Toshiba LCD TV and the picture keeps cutting out intermittently.
A second later it's back on, plays for about a minute and then cuts out again for a second.
I don't know if this is a limitation of the TV (Model no : 40CV550A) or issue with the player.
The only thing I can figure is that when the picture comes back on, it shows 50 hz in the upper right hand corner and sometimes it's 60 hz - depending on the laserdisc title.
Any advice would be appreciated as I really don't know much about laserdisc players.

Now this is a long shot but maybe your television is set up to autodetect incoming signal and some odd pulse or something re-trigger it every now and then: Have you tried to set up correct PAL/NTSC mode from TV settings manually?

Thanks for the reply - I can't find such a setting on my TV.
However, I just found something - There is a button called 'system' on the Laserdisc player. I pressed it and it switched between PAL and NTSC. The picture stays constant. The colour is a bit washed out, but it's staying.

I'd have to agree with this theory. I've had this happen to me before when a disc has had a mark on it or it was warped. Does it happen on all discs? Also, when it happens check the LCD display of the player - does the time continue to run or does it get stuck? Another more depressing point is that it could simply be that the player is old and the laser is weak/needs alignment or something.

Many newer TVs are really signal sensitive, and any little drop-out will trigger that loss of video, then the return of video, along with your display of 50 or 60 HZ, which happens each time the set loses signal then regains it.

This didn't happen on the analog CRT sets, or if it did, it wasn't too noticable.

it sounds like something with the pal/ntsc

in the past i had issues with my DVD recorder and copieing old VHS tapes to DVD on my CRT set.
so it's possibly something to do with the analog to digital issue.

but i just tested a LD player on my fathers LCD and had no issues, but the player was NTSC only.
so makes me think that it's a refresh rate thing or pal/ntsc issue with it being on automatic rather than picking which you want.
