Hi all, So I own a Pioneer CLD-3070; I've owned it for over a couple of months now and for the first month or so, it had worked well with anything I've thrown at it. Lately, however, it's become incredibly temperamental. The player has a tendency to shut off when opening or ejecting the tray; sometimes it takes multiple tries to get a disc inserted and playing. Now usually, once a disc gets going, the player is fine, but I can count at least one time where the motor would simply not spin a disc up after switching to side B and the last disc I threw in, it had difficulty changing chapters. In general, the player has become a pain in the a** to work with and I was wondering if it's worth servicing it to address these issues or if it'd be cheaper just to scrap it and buy something else. Thanks in advance for the suggestions.

Thanks in advance for the suggestions. Common problem with unit shutdown when ejecting tray is that there is a flex cable attached to the from door that folds down when the tray comes out. A lot of times it just needs to be reinserted back in, or the pins are broken in the cable. The the funnest thing to work on as there not much slack. Side B could be the other flex cable that turns 180 with the Turn mechanism for side A to Side B and also back to Side A, over the years a few pins break inside that flex cable as well, and that's why its a hit and miss sometimes when playing side B. Usually when someone sends me a 3070 for service, I go through all the loading gearsone by one and flush old greese out and renew and the tray will also retract quicker and more silently. Duane, MI

it may cost but then you won't have issues for a long time. i bought a working CLD-D503 that after 8 discs has an issue with the clamp rubber gasket. so i'll have to clean it as per ldservices info, if that dosn't work i'll have to replace it, but i paid 55 for the player and it works but i didn't want to do more work on stuff i own right away.
i think that all LD players are going this route, things are aging from heat, use, age. and will need service. there will be more and more cheap priced players, but they are good and need a little TLC.
hey i did some research on my turntable, it would cost around 350 to get it in tip top shape. but i paid 25 for it. and luckly i was able to fix it myself, still needs a rubber wheel as the old one is starting to harden.
welcome to vintage electronics. but again i say do it if you can, its a great player

Thanks guys. I definitely don't have any issues with the player in general; I know it's not the best available, but it has all the features I'd want, looks and sounds great and is built like a tank. It's been an excellent intro to this format and I wouldn't be here asking how to save it if I felt otherwise. Of course, go figure, after I post this, the player hasn't acted up once. How much disassembly is required to access those flex cables? That definitely sounds like a likely culprit.
