well i have a 959 that is giving me problems

Had this shipt from japan and i think it had a bump or 2

Thing is now that when i put in a audio cd or LD it is saying CD or LD on the LCD so it can read (laser works)

But the spindle motor won t turn (i think it s dead)

is there a way i can test the spindle motor? since i read this is based on the 97/98

well, you can take out the spindle motor power connector in the PSU and connect a AA-battery to it and see if it spins =)

yes i tested it! and it works.

now the thing is:

i put the disc in , it seeing the disc then try to spin and it makes a slipping noise and stops and chucks the disc out

maybe i take the complete lens/spindle assy out and send it to khbar

When you load a disc push firmly on the front door for the tray (right side). If the door switch is bad or not activated that's what the player will do...
Good luck

yes i checkt that and that s not the problem :(

since when i leave the door open it does not spin and when i close it does

If i let the spindle go from slow to fast with a little blockage from my fingers it tends to spins longer and trying to read once i let it spin on its own its making a strange noise and eject the disc.

I tested the spindle on it s own but makes no noise

But there is no blockage or anything in the way that can make the noise

:?: :?:

So you mean to say that the disc is clamping in tightly and not slipping on the clamps at all?

Have you cleaned off the rubber clamping surface? Just humor us so we can at least eliminate that as the cause before moving on to the motor.

The 959 is a Japanese version CLD-97. It normally does not have clamping issues, the older clamp style does a better job holding the LD than the 703/704/79/99 style.

You need to test it with a CD first as CD's don't slip on any machine. CD's also do not work the motor as hard. If you can get a CD to work the best test for motors starting to go bad is play the video section of a 5 inch CDV. With the light weight and really fast spin the meter will make bearing noise if bad.

well it s almost certain a laser focus issue.

since when you put in a audio cd it will read and try to spin and the laser goes back and forth try to read but does not go.

when i put in a ld it is saying ld but can not get a focus or a spin

Think there is a problem with the tracking/gain etc etc

don t have a freeking clue

(don t think a bad bearing since i disconected the screen and motor and let it run on it s own and it does not make strange sounds)

Sorry to hear about your luck, very nice player too.

For me to know what's really going on with it, I would need to put the player in Test Mode and start from there in sequence order and read what's taking place and what not.

Im sure its a easy fix, but its one of those that most would have to set it up on the Bench for further Diagnosis and readout of the servos.

yes and the cost for having the lens assy shipt/calibrated is maybe to much. so maybe i need to sell the player as is. or keep it for parts for my cld-97 or hld1000
