Post subject: [CLD-D515] U1 Error Help please!

Hello! I hope somebody can help... I have a 1998 Pioneer CLD-D515 that refuses to load. The drawer closes and there is a horrible whining noise that sounds like a stuck motor for about ten seconds and then it flashes 'U1' and the drawer opens
The manual says it's an incorrectly inserted or dirty disc but it does it with everything - sounds more like a stuck motor or something slipping. I remember somebody a while back saying the belts were prone to fail on these units... any chance it could be this and if so, how do I fix it??

I actually need to sell my player and collection due to zero space but I obviously want to get it working before I do so.

Thanks in advance :)

UPDATE: I managed to get the player working, it appears to be an intermittent fault...I'm assuming this means it's the belt slipping? Maybe?

it might be belts or something else?
there are others that can help you more on this.
but if it is busted you might be better off selling as a project.
you could spend days and money for parts and still not get it working, and what is the 515 worth at top end?

U1 is the code for miss clamp...

Mine had it too, but after trying a few times, it runs smooth now (my player was not in use for a long time)

I think it's repairable

if it's the clamp you might need a new piece of rubber that will grip on the disc.
i think it's around 30 bucks.
ldservice, grasshopper or kahbar should have the part.
i know my d503 was slipping but still worked, i wiped it down a little and it's O.K. but i won't put rare discs in until i get a replacement.

Best thing to do for a player you want to sell is to open the drawer and, with player unplugged, remove and clean the tray load belt and its pullys well, then also clean the upper and lowr clamps well.

Then replace the belt and try it out. I bet it will do much better.
