Today I loaded a disc in my CLD-3080 and pressed play. The player was about to spin the disc when the player suddenly turned off. This wasn't a normal shut down; it was as if the player suddenly lost power. I tried turning it back on, but it refused to power back on.

At first this sounded like a blown fuse so I opened it up and the four main fuses on the power board are still fine. What is the next likely culprit?

First thing would be to check that AC is getting inside the player. I've seen power cords flake out at the point they go through the strain relief at the back panel.

I have continuity between the plug and the input pins on the transformer.

Always a tragedy when a player dies.
My condolences :)

I'm sure there is someone around to solve that problem. Keep us informed

do you have a multi /ohm meter?? do you know how to use it??
if yes then you will have to track it down somehow.

could it be a cold or broken solder joint?? i've had some old guitar amps that were not working, i ran over all the solder joints
with the iron and it worked fine, just trying to give some ideas

I have a multimeter, oscilloscope, and soldering iron at my disposal. I could try hunting down cold solder joints, it's just not a very appealing prospect :P

I've had some helpful hints from both Duncan and Duane (grasshopper and ldservice). I just need to find some time now to work on this :P
