It's so dark and the camera is so damn jerky I can't really make out what needs to be looked for. But it looks like a busted cam. Suggestion? Find the nearest dumpster......

keep us posted if you fix it

also you can use epoxy, the longer the set time the stronger it will be, IF there is something broken or
spinning cam on a metal post, you can glue it back solid IF it came lose.

I can't remember if that's the official name but as it has a slope that's how I refer to it. There are two and they raise and lower the swing mech (which is also the disc clamper). When the mech isn't properly locked for shipping (and oft times even if it is lcoked) they will break. Bad design, even without addressing the multiple CD pickup assembly. These things broke when they were brand new, I know as I did warranty repairs on plenty of them.
Play around with it but don't invest any $$$ or too much effort.

Could somebody post pics showing the location of the cam in question?

The piece in red is the cam (there are two, one on each side). The section in blue is where part usually breaks off...

My cams aren't damaged actually. Both are intact... Something else must be causing the problem.

well, you will just have to tinker and find out what may be the issue, not worth the cost or risk to send that sucker out for repair.

I'd be contacting the Ebay seller for either full refund if you don't mind returning it, or partial refund otherwise, then I'd move on to a better dual-side player.

I've already contacted the seller about this... He said he'd refund or return it if I cant get it working (which I suggested)

Even if it isn't the greatest player, i'd still like to get it at least in working condition for historical reasons, as it is a very unique player. I'm sure there has to be not very many in working shape out there.

possibly very few working, but who cares??
it's not the best picture quality, i bought a D503 with shipping for 50 bucks and it is miles above the quality that
the 301 is.

don't bother, or do what you like ;)

Well, I have one or two of those lying around if you need a parts player. Free, you just pay shipping.

That's a very generous offer and if he's hell bent on "restoring" the player he'd be wise to take you up on your offer

sounds like it's off track.
you will have to find it's source. or pay someone to get it up and running, it's a better player.

good luck.

oh boy.
you will have to start searching up some older topics and find out all of these terms.
they have been covered many times before.

the laser is on a track, you will have to see why it's stuck and making all that noise.
also i think that its too much for you to tackle with repairs on these, it's even too much for me :shh:

it's also just luck with getting these, most are now coming from either a person who knows what
an LD player is and how to pack.

or from someone who just picked it up at an estate sale for 5 bucks since nobody else wanted it. :wtf:

i received 2 of my players in the mail, one was packed O.K. and was broken, the other had NO packing and came through fine.
it's just luck now, or if you pay someone full price for a player you will get it working, if not they will get it working.

You have to determine what motor is running. Tilt motor, sled motor? Sounds like a small motor running super fast like it's thrown a belt.
