Hi All, I'm new to this forum and I have to say, what a brilliant place it is.

I was wondering if anyone can offer any advice on my trusty old Pioneer CLD-2950. It plays discs fine and works in every way but has an intermittent problem with the disc drawer. Mostly, when a disc is initially inserted and the drawer closed, the machine whirs for a while, doesn't load the disc, then ejects itself. More often than not when I close the drawer again, it always loads up on the second attempt. I have gotten used to this little quirk but with all the brilliant technical advice on this site, I wondered whether it would possibly be something fairly easy to repair?

Many thanks
Ed

Thanks for your reply. I'll see if I can degrease it. If I need to replace it, where can I acquire one?

The machine doesn't squeak at all, you can just hear the machine trying to load up without success on first attempt. Thanks.

Hi All,

I now have two brand new belts. Before I remove the cover of the player, can anyone tell me how easy these are to replace please? I don't want to make a start and then find that I get stuck.

Any tips would be appreciated!

Thanks!
Ed

Right, I finally braved it and whipped the cover off this evening and changed the belt. The old one was pretty hard but not perished, however, it doesn't seem to have really changed anything. The mechanism that contains the laser assembly seems to struggle to lift up. I have taken a video of this. Hopefully you can see it. When I gently help it up with my finger, it engages perfectly. Any ideas please? Thanks.

Well, after some more wiggling about and lots more ejecting and closing of the drawer, it seems to be working! Fingers crossed it stays that way! :-)

good to hear that it's working.
i replaced a belt on another non LD player, it took some time for it to break in.
they didn't make the correct belt anylonger for the other player, and it was a little tighter, but worked great after 1-2 discs.
