I was browsing the local for sale ads for Laserdisc stuff when I came across a CLD-V2600. I don't really have much interest in it, but when I was looking at the pictures, I happened to notice that someone had added another port on the back of the unit, right below the Interface Connection port. See the attached photo:

Does anyone know what this port could be for?

That looks like a DIN socket, usually used for analogue audio applications, but I have seen them used for serial ports on some equipment (mostly made by Radio Shack). I suspect that the only way to know for sure would be to look inside the casing.

It's worth mentioning that industrial players are generally built very strongly and reliably, if you think you might need a backup player at some point it's probably worth a look.

All of the 2xxx series are based off low/mid range single-side consumer players, except for the 2800 which is a unique design (but still annoying using a lower-end spindle motor).

That said, they're still good players to have around in a pinch, a tad more reliable because of not having auto-turn, and the 2800 was the smallest 12" capable player made.

(necro-edit: The 2600 in particular is a bit yucky - it still has a CCD TBC and recombined Y/C from an early comb filter. It's worse than the 2400 overall.)

Positively correct. Other than the V4400 and V8000 there is nothing "heavy duty" about the industrial line of players. They are indeed entry level players with RS-232 communications added. I was once told that Pioneer hoped to get these in classrooms so kids would go home and tell their parents so the consumer line would sell. Basic marketing
