I just acquired a mint condition CLD 52. It came with manual, original inserts, warranty card, and remote.

Since this player and the CLD D702 share the same chassis, I want to know is it possible to swap the boards from the 702 into the 52 to get the digital effects.

From the looks of it, it seems like I'd have to remove the boards to the right of the laser pickup.

Could someone guide me on this?

You've got more problems than that. The system control is different meaning a LOT of changes behind the front panel. TOTAL waste of time

What's the CLD-52 based off, then? I thought it was firmly in the "let's stencil ELITE on it" club.

In that case, wouldn't I just have to swap the front panels boards from the 702 into the 52?

To everyone else. If you compare the Elite 52 to the 501, physically, they look the same.

http://www.laserdiscarchive.co.uk/laser ... cld-52.htm
http://www.laserdiscarchive.co.uk/laser ... d-d501.htm

http://www.laserdiscarchive.co.uk/laser ... d-d502.htm

If you look at the links, the 52 and 501 are similar. They have the same designed faceplate, etc.

The 502, on the other hand, has a differently designed faceplate.

Also, the 52 and 501 have S Video output whereas the 502 only has composite out.

Yeah right, good luck with that! You're going to end up with two non working players. What's the point? Leave the 702 a 702 and leave the 52 a 52

I guess you're right. Its a shame Pioneer couldn't have made the Elite 52 have same Digital effects as the 701. So much for an "Elite" player.

Yeah, it looks more like the D501 to me, too. If the 52 had a digital TBC, it might be worthy of being called ELITE, but otherwise I've seen posts from both 501 and 502 owners saying what an upgrade their DVL's are...

(the 503, which per shared service manual here is based off the 703 but has no NR and recombined composite, is probably just a shade under the DVL's)
