I have a D701 here that will not switch to side B. It just makes clicking sounds. It also put a nice big circle scratch on both sides of my disc! I took the top off noticed this little white plastic board with ribbon cables attached just kind of sitting in there not attached to anything. I'm assuming it's supposed to be mounted to something and it just came off? any advice is greatly appreciated.

I've seen that happen before. It's supposed to snap into the metal turn assembly. The snap part breaks. It can be repaired but it's tricky at best.

Thanks for the info. that's a bummer. Is there any possible way it could've just come loose or is it for sure broken? is there a way to tell? I might just see if the seller will refund me.

Every one I've seen was broken. If it came loose it should slide and snap into place.

What your saying is its undid it self and the bare ends have pulled itself out the plug-in-end?
How rare is that for it to happen?

Best way to describe it's a little plastic tray that the circuit board fits on. There are small plastic hooks that snap it to the metal turn assembly. Maybe gets brittle? I don't know but I've seen this more than once. I don't have any photos , it would be difficult to capture.

okay I finally figured out how it's supposed to align. There are 4 tabs, 2 on top 2 on bottom. the bottom 2 tabs are fine but the top two are broken so it won't stay in place. If you have any suggestions on how to fix this I'm all ears. I wonder if I would be able to get a replacement for it?

edit: found a few places that might have the part. I will try that before attempting a repair. besides, I have no clue how I'd repair this thing anyway.

1hr epoxy or longest setting time is the best.
plastic or metal that you can cut or dremel.

that's my best guess, i haven't done this type of repair on an LD player but it works on everything else.

if you can find the part great, if not build it up and then carve it into shape with hand files or dremel.

This happened with a CLD-d750 (same as the d701) I got off of Ebay a long time ago. As has been said, there's a plastic piece required for flipping the laser mechanism that breaks all the time on these players. If you're looking at the player from its front panel, look down towards the bottom right of the of the alpha turn system in the back of the unit and you'll see what I'm talking about.

I agree, very common on that series of players when I use to Buy, Sell & trade a lot of LD players.

I wish I would've known about that before I bought one. I should've done more research so its my own fault. Luckily, a very generous member here is hooking me up with the parts I need at a very good price.
