That's good news to hear about the cd test disc probably not being critical. I looked on ebay and various places and it sounds like they are hard to find. Does anybody know of a burnable image that can be downloaded? I know that's not recommended normally but it seems like for the purposes of laserdisc player adjusting it should do just fine. The manual for the 604 calls for YEDS-7.

It would be great if I could get one of those cheap usb scopes because they are smaller, cheaper and easier to ship. It would be double great if it could replace the freq. counter too. From the manual, it says I need a scope with 2 channels and delay. Would a HP/Tektronix or Agilent fit this bill? I'm a total noob with scopes. We used them in the signal corps to monitor satellite signals but to be honest they were already set up and we just had to visually inspect what was on the screen so I never had to mess with the settings very much lol.

I'm sure they would have found your thread eventually. Can you post a link in the post above so we don't have to look for it from here?

I never bought a test CD but I do use a factory recorded CD I've never had issues with for adjusting the spindle motor centering.

The actual content of a CD matters very little for alignment, the encoding is designed to have similar RF properties no matter what's on it.

The only place where a test CD would make a difference would be for error correction testing or other things deliberately meant to throw off the player - like a torture test for tracking. The alignment instructions don't seem to need any of that.
