Hey everyone,

New to the LD scene, I recently 'upgraded' from a basic CLD-S201 to a CLD-52. However, I cannot get any mechanical sounds from it at all and it will not open. I push the open button, the display on screen and on the unit say "open" or "close" respectively. But nothing happens. Has anyone seen this? Is this worth the repair? I am hoping this could be an easy fix as this is what I 'thought' was a great unit!

Thanks for any help!

open it up and try to see if you can find out what it is.
could be something stuck from shipping or how it was handled before you got it.

I have opened it, it is silent inside, slight electrical buzz, but that's it. Display functions properly, film mode, all remote functions work as well (audio settings, pgm, etc). When pressed, nothing happens. I've jiggled and jostled the tray mech, nothing. But the system controller of under the impression the tray is opening/closing. I'm hoping it's a loose cable or fuse? Is anyone familiar with this model or have a service manual? I'm having trouble finding one. Maybe another model would have the same manual?

Could the slight electrical buzz you hear be a motor spinning? I'm not familure with that player as such but I would assume like in my players the motor that controls the tray has a belt from it to the gear assembly. If this belt has snapped nothing will happen when you press open. If this is the case the motor will be located under the tray to the front of the player. You'll need to drop the front panel off the player and have a look. If it is broken you may have to remove the tray to get at it to fit another belt or you might get lucky and be able to manually turn the gears to eject the tray. Just be careful you don't snap any off!

At the very least it will let you check if the motor is spinning when you press eject.

I'd check the loading belt - it's a 702-based player, from the looks of it. It's the common fix for the 503/703-4 players, at least.

I had a CLD-52 and had the same problem. When you pressed the open/close button, the front display said open......and after no movement the display would then change to close, and still no movement.

It was a fuse in the power board that had went. There are 2 fuses both next to each other and both are the type that have to be soldered in. So one of the fuses probably went in your player. It's a 0.63A 125V fuse

I got 2 fuses (one as a spare) and had a shop here solder it in for me and that fixed it. The fuse is updated looking from the original. I since sold my cld-52 and I still have the extra fuse. Here is what the fuse looks like. They were 17.00 each. The printing on the fuse says PT 500MA
