Hoping for a little help again . . .

My CLD 950 has very recently started to falter when playing the end portion of CAV discs (notably Citizen Kane Criterion 142). The same disc played without issue on a 2950 (let's say, no issues that I spotted).

CLV title playback appears to be unaffected.

All other features of the player run perfectly fine.

I notice that a similar problem has been mentioned a couple of times in the forums, and in regards to a 2850 the fault was remedied (adjusting focus servo . . . ?).

Would anyone be able/willing to advise/instruct me on how to fix this? I've had a look for the service manual for this model but no luck just yet.

The Focus Servo either needs adjustment or the laser is aging. Hopefully Focus Servo adjustment will fix it.

I do not have manuals for the European players, All I can do is say open it up and look for the variable resistor labeled Focus Servo. I do not suggest moving it much as it takes equipment and practice to properly adjust. If these same LD's used to play fine on this machine then it's most likely the laser starting to wear out.

krbahr, I have now played a few more CAV discs to check the player and I've not found one that it can't play all the way through. If it wasn't for the fact that sides 1 thru 4 of Citizen Kane play perfectly on the 2950 I'd've been certain that it was the discs.

happycube, thanks for the link. Account created and manual downloaded. It will definitely help me while I weigh the pros and cons of any (untrained yet enthusiastic) action.
