Post subject: [CLD-D503] Problem - CDs work, but LDs don't (solved)

I'm having trouble with my LD player; whenever I place a Laserdisc in the player and close it, it whines and whirs a bit, before opening the tray again. I've discovered that CDs work flawlessly. This unit used to work fairly well, but I hadn't used it in a couple years. Any idea what could be causing this? Any help at all would be much appreciated, thanks.

Probably the loading belt.

A search on here should find few threads.

You could start here: Help with Pioneer Laserdisc Players!!!

its the rubber pad on the clamping spindle.
I don't know who has it to replace.
you can try opening it and cleaning the black rubber pad that has dried up.
Good Luck.

Thank you! Would you happen to have a picture of what I would be looking to clean, or perhaps be able to describe it in detail? Also, what would you suggest cleaning it with? (Sorry for the hassle, I have very little experience working with Laserdisc players)

do a search on lddb, there is a post somewhere.
I don't even have any idea what to use, just remember reading that once.
but then I just got a new rubber pad and forgot about the issue.
Good Luck.

Thanks, I found this post (http://www.hometheaterforum.com/topic/184720-need-help-with-problem-laserdisc-players/?p=2068634) on another forum which seems to describe the location of the part and cleaning process in great detail. I'll give it a go tomorrow and check back in with the results.

Just wanted to update and say that I cannot thank you enough for the advice. I opened it up today, cleaned the rubber pad, and it's now in working order once again! Just finished watching a movie. :D

Congrats, but sooner than later you will need to replace that rubber pad.
