Post subject:  [CLD-D703] LD starting up fast/shaking+takes a while to stop

I've been having some issues with a CLD-D703 I've recently come across. One problem I seemed to have mostly solved is that when inserting a LD, much of the time the player would either stall or wouldn't be able to recognize the disc within and would feed out the message "no disc". I replaced the loading belt and the player now rarely stalls, and it actually seems to recognize the disc more, but not 100% of the time. The other issue I'm having though is that when a LD starts up to play, it shakes out for a small period then spins really fast, until it slightly slows down and plays normally - not wobbling. When it switches sides, it again wobbles - but returns back to normal playing after. When I tell it to stop, the disc slows down and it responds to an "eject" press about 10-15 seconds later.

One thing I feel might be the cause of the shaking is that I earlier tried a quick-fix video tip that you can loosen some screws on the railing, holding the (what I think is the) spindle motor, and it'll fix a stall problem I was having (which was solved with belt replacement). So I made sure all the screws are very tight and the issue still arises. The player is fully functional, it's just this way the disc is shaking doesn't feel normal. When the shaking happens while the disc switches sides, it almost seems like it's going to jump up into the laser and scratch the disc (but it hasn't done this yet).

So does anyone have any ideas on what's the issue and how I can fix it? Thanks

Have you tried cleaning the rubber pad on the spindle motor clamp? That's the usual culprit, and an easy fix, for a lot weird spinning symptoms. The shaking might be caused by the disc slipping in the clamp. The disc itself might be warped too. LDs are heavy and spinning one off balance (due to warp) can cause some decent shake/wobble. Also, I wouldn't loosen any spindle motor screws as that could exacerbate the shaking.

Clean or best replace the grip ring on top of the spindle motor

Just thought I'd say I forcefully tightened the screws even more and the disc doesn't shake as violently anymore. It still doesn't seem to go as smoothly as my CLD-D502, but it seems reasonable now. I have it all closed up at the moment, but I'll definitely try cleaning the spindle motor some time, but this has fixed most of the issue for me. Thanks for the tips though!
