I have a CLD-59 that plays but does skip back occasionally and will not chapter search on side B. With the cover open if I start to play side B it will start no problem but if I go forward (using chapter search) the pickup does not move, it just searches for a bit and then goes back to the beginning, if I use FFWD it goes no problem. I have already tried cleaning and greasing the rails (fixed my other two players successfully doing this) but that doesn't seem to help? Anything else I should be looking at?

Could be a centering issue. You could adjust by trial and error, but it may take a while. If you have an oscilloscope it will be much faster.

Take a look at the adjustment here and decide if you're up to it: http://www.lddb.com/_misc/manuals/LD_Pl ... l_Scan.pdf

The side B screw is shown on p.54 and adjustment described on p.57. Note that the screw has +/- 90 degree rotation. If you decide to attempt it, mark the starting point and do not over turn the screw.

This model has the m-holder issue. You need to replace the plastic piece that holds the motor to the laser assembly.

krbahr is a real LD authority, I merely dabble. Try what he suggests.

Thank you very much. Any chance I can buy the part online somewhere?

I have messed with the centering screw to no avail, I can cause more problems and also solve with this adjustment so I am pretty sure that isnt it.

Be careful removing the old one as the pins holding the gears are most likely broke and the gear will fall out one you loosen the holder. The broke pins is why you are having problems. The newer one you'll get is a better plastic, not as fragile, and will last longer.

Once the new one is installed put in a CD and center the laser to the motor using CD playback.

Turns out shutting off the "quick turn" function solved the chapter problem, it can now search and find chapters ok, does that tell us anything?

Now though around the 18min mark on side b it skips, if I ffwd and rew through a bad spot it will get it, is this now a lubrication issue or alignment or both?

I think I messed up the black alignment screw, I loosened it and I have to manually shift the rail and tighten to adjust is that correct use and how do I set properly without pro tools?

I don't own any players with quick turn function. Forgive me I ask what's the point of it? As if sometimes we want slower side change therefor quickturn is optional?

No idea but as soon as I shut it off and powered on an off the chapter search started working perfectly where it didnt work at all prior.

I think my other issue is caused by centering of side B, I was messing with the black screw and if I understand correctly now I should loosen that black screw, then adjust the white screw to where it plays ok then tighten the black screw, does that sound right?

In "quick turn" mode, the Side B table of contents is not memorized. This allows the player to start playback immediately, but impedes certain special playback functions.

So this is the part correct? Both pins are broken so I'm guessing you are 100% dead on. Going to order it.... Thanks. Where is the center adjustment I will need to make?

Yes, that is it. I thought you said you messed with the centering!! If you didn't then install the new holder and go.

I did mess with side b centering but I think I see how to do that, clearly there is a spot where the pic looks normal with no crosstalk. Do I need to do same with side A after replacing part?

If it plays CDs ok then don't mess with side a centering, just fix side b.

The part is showing as "backorder" right now, do you know if this will ever actually be filled or is there somewhere else I can order the part?

Since it shows as currently available, there's probably a good chance they'll actually fulfill it. I just ordered a switch from them that showed up as back-ordered, but then shipped a few days later. My guess is they probably need to verify inventory before charging you.

I recently ordered a part from JVC for an older stereo receiver. They told me it was backordered but would ship in about a month. Apparently this is pretty much standard for older components. Something to do with where the inventory is stored, I'm going to guess.

The part just showed up yesterday via DHL (Pioneer charged $6.00 which included shipping).

This was indeed the issue, swapped it out and player is all good now. Thank you very much for the help.

Nice on both counts - Pioneer used to charge quite a bit for shipping!

(I'd order some now but I got a few in an ebay lot I got a year or few ago.)

"If you have an oscilloscope..."

Can you recommend a make & model appropriate for this type of project?

That would be greatly appreciated.
