Post subject:  [CLD-V2800] Issues/errors

Just inherited a CLD-V2800 from my wife's work and I am having several problems including skipback and E3 and E5 errors.

The errors seem to always be a result of the laser assembly getting stuck, when they happen I take off the top (not the cover, the actual "inside" top piece), remove the disc and give it a little nudge it will move and everything will go back to normal.

When I do get the disc to start playing it will play, skipback, play, etc.

I have tried cleaning and greasing the rail, cleaning the rubber pad (though it is not slipping), and replacing the loading belt none of which has solved the problems. I removed and checked the Mholder and it is not broken.

What else do I look for? Is the laser assembly or motor bad? Any chance I can swap one from an old CLD-S303 that I have lying around? Anything else I should try? Thank you very much, really dont want to put any money in this thing but it is cool and I would like to get it working...

It is rare but I've had motors with bad spots where they won't move. Also seen stuff in the track. Other thing I've seen is intermittent ribbon cable failures. Instead of moving the pickup try bouncing the cable, if that fixes it you need a new cable.

Cleaned track didn't help. I can feel motor trying to engage with my finger on it, needs motor? Ribbon cable seems fine.
