Push (and hold) on the door while pressing play. It's common for the door flap to not make good contact with the switch that senses it's closed. If that fixes it you may have to play with the switch position slightly so that it works consistently.

tried it, wont play, the pickup scans disc and all, and but no budge. the pickup scans the disc ONLY right after is has been inserted, if i try to hit play while the disc is in it, nothing happens.

Hold the door flap slightly open as you press power. The player will go into service mode. If it spins up a disc in service mode there's still hope.

Thanks, i tried, but when i hit play i only hear a tiny tickle sound for a few seconds, no sign of spinning up the disc :/ but what does this mean, is this a spindle or pickup issue? might be hard to tell, but have to ask :)

Now we're out of my ability to troubleshoot. Grasshopper may be able to help, I know he's had some experience with this player series.

there seems to be a cable connected to the pickup that can go bad, and Kurtis is gonna try to find me a new one :)

Been working on quite a few 97's and 95's, yes the flex cable is what I change first when I recieve a player for service, regardless. As they age. As they age, there are a lot of more problems that I'm encountering in the mechanics and boards that I rarely seen 6 years ago..Even coming across audio and more spindle problems which are electrically faulty not mechanical. A lot of time in troubleshootig. :(
