If that fixes it you may have to play with the switch position slightly so that it works consistently. tried it, wont play,the pickup scans disc and all, and but no budge. the pickup scans the disc ONLY right after is has been inserted, if i try to hit play while the disc is in it, nothing happens.

Been working on quite a few 97's and 95's, yes the flex cable is what I change first when I recieve a player for service, regardless. As they age. As they age, there are a lot of more problems that I'm encountering in the mechanics and boards that I rarely seen 6 years ago..Even coming across audio and more spindle problems which are electrically faulty not mechanical. A lot of time in troubleshootig.
