Are you saying that the screen turns black while playing the film???
I can't remember what it is but I think it has to do with your connections???
Try another video cable and see if it still happens.

It could also be something with the refresh rate?????
Like I said I can't remember and I don't believe LD gets the issue but I know there is an issue with CED.

Could it be a TBC issue? I've experienced in the past that the screen would occationally black out for a second or so. After I switched over from Onkyo to Yamaha AVR, the issue went away. Still occur on my tape formats, though.
