Hi! So i've been working on a cld-95 for a friend of mine and have got it running again, but it seems to have ghosting/smearing issues, and wonder if anyone know what causes this, check picture.

Brightness is too high, and this is a sort of normal issue with LDs ________________________________ the rein-o official signature:

[quote="rein-o"]Brightness is too high, and this is a sort of normal issue with LDs Only seems too bright because of the ISO on my mobile camera =) Feeding the tv my x9 with the same settings gives me a flawless image though, so i guess the 95 just isn't that good. thanks anyway =) |

Well the X9 is supposed to be free of the CLV smear issue so maybe you are not used to what a "normal" Pioneer gives off as far as smearing goes. Try the 95 with a CAV disc and see if the issue is gone, if so its just "normal" CLV smear.... |

It'd be interesting to know what causes this issue, I also get some light smear which seems to only happen in NTSC discs on my 2950 - the X9 obviously has some circuitry that fixes it |

X9 has a red laser, so the RF pickup properties are a bit different. (and the X9's dropout detection wasn't adjusted for them...) Usually smear is caused by the analog components (at/after the RF demodulation), some judicious recapping/circuit bypassing (like replacing the video out circuits with a lower noise op amp) would probably help. |

Maybe splitting hairs, but the photo looks like ringing/ghosting to me, not smear. |
