Hey LDDB:

I've been experiencing that problem that afflicts all 3070 models sooner or later - the lubricant on the tray gears are getting sticky (otherwise it plays beautifully). Being a person who likes to repair his own stuff, I've opted to do the repair myself even though it's my first time working on an LD Player. And yes, I do know that it takes a full teardown (almost) to gain access to the tray's gears.

I've hit a snag in preparation though; I've been looking for the Service Manual (not Operating Manual) for awhile now and can only find pay-to-download links, and who knows if those are reliable. I already tried looking in your document repository but only found the Operating Manual and the Catalog, which are still cool to have. Would anyone happen to have a download link to the Service Manual, or a tutorial on how to do the tear down. Thanks.

I do hope you get the info you need.
Unfortunately i believe the 3070 is a very hard player to fix, i can fix most stuff but would NEVER take on the 3070.

I was told that you MUST get the gears in order otherwise you will never get it back on track, also there are jigs that you need to get
the player back together.

If i were you i would contact someone for service.
Good luck with it.

Yes, you do have to have the gears in the correct position when you insert the tray. Once you clean the grease that has become sticky over the years it will work fine. Not sure where you can get a manual. Mine is microfiche.

i imagine all of these points would also be applicable to the ELITE CLD-91/92,
since, AFAIK, those models are virtually identical to the 3070...

Unfortunately most of the links going to the 3070 SM (Elektrotanya for instance) are actually the 3080 SM + 3070 service guide...

Well I found part of the Service Manual on Hifi-Engine but it's missing quite a few pages. They only have up to pg 45 which seems to be mostly electrical diagrams. I'll keep looking.

The complete service manual, if you find it, will be of little use fixing the drawer mechanism on that player, as with all other Pioneer players. You will find an exploded view of the parts but only in the front of the manual. You will not find servicing information for the drawer assembly, only alignment procedures for the electronics, and full schematic diagrams, as well as part numbers of electronic components and their values...nothing really more than that unfortunately.

The 3070 actually has two manuals, one has the electrical adjustments and the other has other information. I'm on vacation and I cannot rememeber exactly what is in each one but I do believe one has the drawer timing.
