Post subject: CLD-E2000 test mode to output stereo audio from SPDIF?

I have a Pioneer CLD-E2000 and a Yamaha APD-1. I'm wondering if there's a way (via a test mode perhaps?) of outputting stereo audio via SPDIF instead of AC3? I have a few concerts on Laserdisc that I'd like to record digitally... to... minidisc. (Yes, another dead format I know, but still a great one!)

Thoughts on this?
Thanks!

Charles.

Ahah! I used to do that as well back in the days. Even recorded some of my favorite movie sequences to audio to listen to them randomly (Pulp Fiction, Scream, Twin Peaks).

AC3RF only output RF signal though, not digital and the demodulator expect a RF signal...
And this player has no digital output correct?

As it is, the E2000 needs a mod for AC3 output - which is easier than an SPDIF mod on most players, since you're filtering the RF signal, whereas with SPDIF you're hacking into the CD decoding chip.

It was probably expected that most (new) players with AC3 out would have SPDIF of some form, so they didn't bother to make a combined CD audio/AC3 demodulator, which is/was technically feasible.

Test mode can be fun (and sometimes even play some otherwise unplayable disks), but it won't let you do anything the hardware doesn't have...
