I've not used this for awhile since I have the LDS1 but I wanted to watch an AC-3 disc (A Little Princess) and it can't start up. It sounds like the motor is bad or something. Any ideas?

Sounds like you need a loading belt. Can buy at pacparts.com...cleaning yours will buy you some time.

Pacparts didn't show any parts available. I might take it to a local repair shop and see if they would have a belt.

hit the yard sales, thrifts, church rummage sales and such for 1980's VCRs for cheap or free,
these decks are usually full of various-sized belts, and after dismantling a half-dozen decks or more,
you can build yourself a nice stash of belt spares in various sizes, and odds are that you'll have at least a few
that will serve as at least temporary replacements for the average LDP and CDP disc-loading mechanism belt(s) ...

Pioneer has a belt. I might put in an order for a couple.

If you cannot get it from Pioneer order a SCQ3.6 which is the closest generic belt.

found some Pioneer on eBay so I got that. when I logged into Pioneer it showed out of stock. If this doesn't work I have found also the page on Pacparts so I could get it from them.

U1 error code is it always linked to a worn loading belt?

No but it's the easiest place to start.
