I found a CLD-D704 locally that upon first inspection appeared worth the risk at a $40 asking price. The machine powered on, the tray ejects and closed, and that's about all I could test when deciding to buy it. I got it home and threw a disc in it, the disc spins up but just sits there with "Play" displayed on the screen. The play arrow is flashing on the front display of the unit, but no video except the overlay. Any suggestions?

Is Bayview out of business these days? I tried calling them and got a number not in service message.

Congrats on the 704 it's really a great machine. Get that cover off and check the loading belt. See if the clamp is engaging and the disc is spinning up or not.

Thanks, I'll give that a shot. Hoping I can revive this guy and have it replace my CLD-D702.

I can't believe you even have to ask about Bayview.
Do a search here or Google and you will find enough info.

Yes, real bummer.
And its a bummer due to the fact that about 1/2 of the stuff he has is not worth the extra to get it back from a monetary point of view.

Since you say it is spinning but cannot read the disc my first question is did you try a CD? A CD does not engage the video circuitry so it tracks like a CD player when try to play verses a Laserdisc tracks the video signal. If it is loading properly and playing the CD but it won't play laserdiscs then there are a few issues that it could be, If it doesn't play either then it is the laser pickup or the main servo board.

Lesson for everyone, these units play CD's so if the seller doesn't have a laserdisc ask hem to try a CD and verify that will play before buying.

Update on this unit. It actually works with every other disc I've tested except the first one.

Star Wars A New Hope 1130-85 (Mitsubishi pressing): http://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/36787/113 ... -Hope-(FOX).

This disc will not play, it plays without issue on my D702. Every other disk I've tested in the D704 works great and looks a good chunk better than my D702.

Any suggestions on this? The Star Wars disc isn't dirty or anything and the fact that it plays great on the D702 should rule out something wrong with the disc.
