Post subject:  [CLD-D515] E3 Error  Topic is solved

Hello

My Pionner D515 wont Eject the Tray anymore and just gives me an E3 error. The M-Holder was replaced last year together with the Belt and the Player worked fine till recently.
About 2 or 3 Weeks ago, the Player didnt want to Turn on anymore and showed no Standby Light while Pluged in. After Opening up and manually moving the Tray a bit, it turnd on and worked again until now. The Fuse is fine and so are the gears, the Tray can stil be fully moved in and out via the gears.

Has anyone any Idea what the Problem could be?

E3 would normally be the pickup not in the correct position. But from your description you pushed the tray a little and it worked. I would try that again. It is more common with the movement motor but motors can get dead spot and they will not start moving. The motors will work fine again until it stops at that exact dead spot again. So either the laser movement motor or the mechanism motor may have a dead spot and needs replacing. You could also try opening the player and turn the worm gear on the movement motor a little and see if it works after that.

The E* error is a slider timeout feedback that (possibly the clamp because of the 3) something didn't reach the right position after a given amount of time.

Check: [GLOBAL] List of Pioneer Error Codes

Kurtis probably knows a bit more about this but if things started with a power issue, could something have been damaged in side the player?

@admin: Thank You for the Error Code Link

Moving the Tray manually again didnt changed the Problem. The Player looks fine inside, there is no visible Cap Damage going on and the Flex Cable of the Lasermechanism is stil pluged in and replugin the Mainboard End didnt change anything. I dont know where the Slider position switch is supposed to be or what the Slider is.

Try turning the worm gear that extends from the pickup movement motor, it will move the laser pickup forward or back a little. Then try the unit again.

Tried it, the Laser can be moved via the worm gear but the Player stil gives a E3 Error.

Next thing would be turn the worm gear to move the laser toward the back until it hits a stop. Then closer toward the spindle motor you’ll see a couple white arms, move those which will break and make the contacts in the switch they are connected to, sometimes these can get intermittent. Then power on the unit and see if the laser moves toward the spindle motor to the rest position so it can start the open process.

Tried it, but nothing changed. Thinking about it now, i maybe also should have writen, that the laser doesnt move at all, it just stays where it is.

That was the simple test. Now you'll have to get a service manual and start probing for bad signal or bad voltages from the power supply

I got a PDF of the Service Manual and a Multimeter. Apparantly the Mainboard Side of Pin 9 only gets 0,65V instead of 12V. The first Part right behind Pin 9 is F5 (Fuse) which shows no continuity.
I guess this is the culprit.

After replacing the broken Fuse F5, the Laser moved about 1/4 of an Inch (0.5cm) back and forth. After Pushing the White Arm, the Laser reset itself and the Tray finally moved again.
Everything works perfectly again.
Thank you very much for the Help.

Post subject:  Re: [CLD-D515] E3 Error (solved)

My Yamaha W901 (in which the laser moves from the top and bottom - A and B side - without removing the disc) had an "E3" code when it got stuck while "flipping" between sides internally. That was 11 years ago, until I read this Post. I had to remove the top bracket (easy four screws) in order to remove the laser disc, but left the laser mechanism in tact (talk about a complex piece!). I saw the small motor with a worm gear and could just reach in with my finger to move the worm gear. The gear movement was a bit stiff at first, indicating that it was most likely stuck. Then it moved freely just after a few turns. I stopped and immediately turned the unit back on....and like magic it reset itself, no code and the door opened like normal - so many thanks and saved another one from the dump!
