Post subject:  [CLD-D925] Drive belt replacement

I've recently had a "spring clean" of a lot of my old videogame equipment that uses optical drives, basically re-greasing the rails the laser assemblys sit on, as by now 25 year-old grease has either dried out or gone completely with age and use.

So, I thought I'd take a look at my D925 at the same time.

I bought it new at the end of '97 and she's given uninterupted service since.

I was actually surprised about how clean and dust free the inside was, and that most areas that had it at the factory were still lubed. Anyhow, I re-greased those areas that needed it and was going to change the drive-belt at the same time.

I've had no loading issues, but a 21 year-old rubber belt...

Well, I can see where it's located, but I can't see any way of changing it without removing the loading tray.

Could someone please advise how to remove the tray so I can service the belt, or let me know the trick you use to remove the belt without dismantling anything?

Thanks!

I was able to reach in with the tray ejected once, but it's pretty easy to remove it, there are two tabs at the back of the tray and then it pops out. Just did that on a DVL-919 today, in fact. It's easier to put the tray back in when the player's unplugged ;)

(BTW The belt in the late CLD/DVL players also drives the tilt through CAM gear magic.)

Thanks, I'll take another look at it when I get five.

I could probably unhook the belt with the tray open, but getting to the smaller spindle further inside the mechananism... yeah, not going to happen!

That should provide some visual guidance!
