Hello
Have a cld d702 with an issue reading side 1 or A, plays side B fine but on A it sounds like the laser quits very quick after pressing play then slowly stops and ejects the disc. It says open on front panel as if it would be aborting launch. Tested a CD and same reaction after attempting to read. Been looking but can’t get to the right info, I’m sure this is not a new problem so if someone can guide me to the right please It would be very appreciated. Thanks

Update is that I can play side B first and when switching to side A it plays fine but it won’t play side A from the get go.

Could be alignment??
I'm no tech so do some searching.
If side B plays its more likely that or possible slipping from the rubber mat.

This is an odd one that is unique.

However, my educated guess is that it would be an issue more with CD playback. Since a CLD player needs to initially identify what type of disc is loaded especially on side A, it may be a focus setting on the player that needs a slight tweak. And this would make sense since the player does not have to identify the disc type for side B since it knows it must always be an LD.

Make sense and I was leaning towards that idea with some doubts. Thanks for clarifying about B side not needing identification, makes complete sense. Now I need to look for information on how to do this procedure though, I’m not to clear on lens adjustment. I Will post any progress.

Still think its a slipping issue.
I know some players if not reading TOC on side A from slipping it won't play side B. Had that with my 503 when slipping.
Other players need to read on first side, some can play from side B so it may not be slipping on side B.

Would check slipping as that's the easiest to do, get something to wipe any dust etc off the pad and see if it works.
Could use some cleaner but nothing to destroy the rubber mat you have left.

If this is happening on a CD and an LD both, it is more than just a slipping issue. To me, it sounds like a Side A Centering error.
