Tried to play some Laser disc last week with my CLD-v740. Player front panel displayed chapter 0 and started to play (play time started counting). However, TV had no video nor audio. I tried several discs, same result. Player has not been used for a long time. It was working great back then.

Any suggestion or comment about this no video/audio issue ?

Thanks,

Connections (Video/Audio) should be good because I could see the "OPEN", "CLOSE", "PLAY" etc on TV but just no movie/sound when playing the LD. Also, I did not see the blue screen when starting to play the LD. Only blank screen all the times.

I will try different cables.

I think you need to show a picture of your player and connection to your TV.
And are you sure you have correct NTSC player disc and TV?

The player was bought new back then in Boston and was working fine using the same LD discs. It "played" last week but no video/audio. I have not bought any PAL discs. All the discs are NTSC format. I will take pictures of the player and the connection to TV. This player only support RCA connection, no HDMI nor S-video.

Thanks,

OK So this used to work on this TV you are using? or is this a new TV that you never had the LD connected to?
Can't really say what it might be, player probably isn't broken but something with the TV not picking up the signal?

TV is new (LED, with only 1 Composite/Component input); typical nowaday TV. I will try to find another TV to test.

There are 2 video outputs from this player. I used video output 1 to connect to TV. When I unplugged the video cable from output 1 and plugged it back to output 2 of the player, TV displayed "no signal". Then I plugged the video cable back to output 1, the "no signal" display disappeared on TV. So there must be some signal from player to TV so that TV would show the status of the player such as "OPEN", "CLOSE", "PLAY", "SEARCH", "CHAPTER x", etc. Just no video/audio when playing the LD disc !!

Thanks,

Try plugging everything in and turn on the TV after the LD is on.
and as above try another cable.
Good luck.

This is a Karaoke player.

Did you check if your player is on “Aux” mode? That would definitely kill the sound but maybe also mute the video as well.

If you can see the on screen display for Play Open etc but no LD video that is indeed weird.

Can you hear a CD when you play that?

Yes, it is a Karaoke player. "Aux" mode ? How to enable/disable it ?

There is a button on the front panel next to the Echo control called “Aux Input”. Keep pressing it until the on screen display tells you it is on “normal” (at least I think that is what it will say).

Latest update:

It turned out to be the JVC TV input. After I tried different video input in TV, I could watch the video. However, that revealed more issues about the video signal ! I enclose the link to the short video capture of the player video issues for reference.

https://youtu.be/dbh8jAqhdTw

I had tried a few more disks, same issues. Could it related to the laser head ?

Thanks,

Looks like a sync issue and the TV is not getting the signal.

Don’t you have a small CRT somewhere you can use for diagnosis? It’s really almost essential for figuring out these kinds of issues. A CRT likely will display the crappy signal and won’t drop it every few seconds like your modern screen does.

Anything, a 13” b/w TV with the radio built in and a handle on top would do.

Maybe this is a multi-system TV that is not set on NTSC?

TV is a cheap JVC LCD bought from Best Buy a couple years ago.
