Argh! I played a warped disc without realising it and it caused an awful noise. I turned off the LD player immediately and tried later to eject the disc. It does nothing now. Just gives an E0 error. I opened the lid. The laser at the.back looks like its halfway, is that right? It doesn't move. The disc is clamped tight. Any ideas what to do? Gutted right now. Heres what it looks like.

I'm wondering if the disc hit the pickup and broke the M-Holder? Try turning the white worm gear to move the pickup towards the spindle motor. |

I havent a clue what im looking at tbh. I cant seem to move anything anyway. The metal thing that is like a seesaw moves a bit though. |

I had this happen once on a CLD-D505. The silver chassis right above the pickup had a dent and simply made it stuck. Don't remember all the detail but I managed to bend it back and had to wiggle on the gear with the drive belt (under the disc tray) to get it [the pickup] back in place. |

Okay. Progress. I tapped the laser thing with my finger. Very slightly by accident. Looks like it tapped it back. Now the laser thing is moving. Like its trying to.get somewhere. But.its stuck and.just.moves the same tiny amount back and forth. Then E0 error appears. |

Remove the plastic notch on the back of the chassis to see if you can get a better look. I can't tell what (if anything) is getting caught here. The pickup is bouncing back and forth right about where the mechanism tilts up/down on the side change. For reference: https://youtu.be/t34dj8m1UGw?t=142 |

Since the laser is in the back you should be able to unplug the unit, take the cover off, and then turn the load gear to drop the laser assembly and have the tray come out. Then you would need to reach in and manually turn the worm wheel on the laser movement motor and assist it in turning out on the bottom. Could not tell if you have the gray or black MHolder but it you have the gray one the mounting pins could be broke and the gears are jamming. Hard to tell what the issue is until you get the tray out so you can really inspect the unit. |

Have you actually removed the LD yet? I would be doing that first then try to see what you botched. And how bad was the warped disc? I want a pic of that. |

I don't know how to remove it. It's clamped. I don't know what I am doing so do not want to force anything and break it. |

Remove the 4 screws and remove that top bracket and pop out comes the LD. Do this at your own risk and then your player will work again. |

Do the screws for the top clamp have a specific torque? Should the disc just fall away or is it clamped in tight mechanically in some way? If I remove the disc, that should allow the laser then to freely move? Why isn't it just resetting it's position? Does the LD think it's playing a disc when it's switched on because the disc is currently clamped, thus it's getting confused as to what to do which is why it's stuck? I'll give it a go tonight if I'm feeling brave. Hopefully this is the fix. Thank you for the tip!

OK so I unscrewed the top bracket and sure enough I was able to remove the disc. Thanks for the tip! The laser unit still struggled though and would not move. I gave it a nudge with my screwdriver and it moved down a small way and stopped. I nudged it again and the laser unit returned all the.way to the front of the player (bottom part of the player) but it trundled along VERY slowly to get there. Now at power on I still get an E0 error but apart from the metal bracket thing moving up and down, the laser unit never moves or makes a sound. |

Facing the unit, on the back right of the turn guide there is a spring running vertically. At the bottom it is connected to a switch. Toggle this. It should be moved towards the front. |

Thanks I will try that. Excuse ignorance but whats the turn guide? Is that the plastic rail at the back to move the laser up and down between sides? Do I need the whole cover off or just the back plastic protection part? |

The curved white plastic piece the pickup traverses during the side change. You can't see it in the attached photo, but it is in the area circled in red. You shouldn't need any further disassembly. It is probably easier to see it and toggle it from the top though.

Thanks for that. I found the spring and slid it forward, sure enough the laser sped back to the middle, and im now back to square one the other night. It looks like it just has trouble getting past halfway up the M mount thing. I can't see of here anything broken though. |
