Now tell us if the plastic piece holding that motor on the laser assembly is gray or black. Gray is bad, black is good.

I will have to open it up again for a proper look but I think it is grey.

The paperwork has a manufacture sticker and says it was made in 1997.

Sent this off today for a repair and a full strip down and service and maybe some capacitor replacement too as a preventative measure.

I'll update this thread with the final outcome once I get the diagnosis. Hopefully it's repairable.

It needs a new m holder. that is way it can't make it's way up.

When I poked around inside I couldn't see anything broken at all around the holder.

Hopefully it doesn't need one. If it is broken I hope a new one can be sourced.

I'm getting it fully stripped down, regreased, balanced, laser aligned, deep cleaned and if required it will be treated to new capactiors throughout. Also a new belt will be fitted too. Double boxed courier shipping back to me too.

This is all pending a diagnosis first. No work will be done if it is beyond repair.

If it can be repaired I am happy to pay for a day at the health spa for my little CLD-D925. It will hopefully give my LD player many more years of service. After that I'm going to try and source a second player as a backup. Or, blow it all on something stupidly high end!

teddanson I really hope you get the 925 back & in good order ready to spin your discs.

I take it whoever is taking on the repair/refurbishment is up to the job, great that you have found someone who can repair LD players - rare beasts nowadays.

Is it travelling far or is it staying fairly local?

I wish you the best of luck & look forward to you posting good news on this soon  .

Cheers

Posting from Ireland to the UK. I have the original retail box so it should ship perfectly. It's gone now though so no turning back!

I got a recommendation from a fellow LDDB forum member. I won't post anything here just yet as I want to see how it works out, plus the contact may not want their name plastered on here to suddenly be swamped with emails. As you say, finding someone competent and willing to work on Laserdisc players seems to be a very rare thing indeed.

I am going to see if I can get a couple of photos of the work too, more to share for helping out purposes than anything else.

None of this is coming cheap, I could buy a couple of cheap players for what this may end up costing. But my player is virtually mint. I've owned it for years. I want to keep it that way.

Fingers crossed it all works out.

Fingers crossed for you here as well.

Hope the outcome is positive & you are spinning your big silver discs again.

Cheers

So the CLD-D925 has been taken apart and looked at.

  1. Broken cog
  2. Broken motor holder
  3. Bad spindle motor

It's going to get new parts and also a full service (deep clean, new belt, re-grease etc). Not sure if I'm going to ask to get the capacitors done yet, see what condition they are in first.

Lesson learned. Never play a warped disc...even by mistake!

Wow; Undoubtedly a very expensive lesson learned then, re: 3. could it be that was already on its way out and not totally caused by the warped disc I wonder? looking on the bright side it is still repairable then Ted?

Yeah though it still works out cheaper getting it repaired and serviced (just about) than trying to source a new working CLD-D925 so it's not so bad in the grand scheme of things. Lesson totally learned though!

I'll stock up on spares (I found a place to get the cog and motor holder) and maybe look out for a knackered 925 to keep for parts if ever needed. I don't need a jillion players in my gaf gathering dust. Happy out with a clean and fully serviced player and hopefully I'll be able to get many more years from it.

Not sure when I'm going to get it shipped back yet. No massive hurry. It only arrived yesterday anyway!

Yep, I reckon at the end of the day it will come back to you in far better shape than the vast majority currently offered on eBay so hopefully your money's well spent.

The grey motor holder is going to be replaced with a new black one. The black one I believe is a newer revision and the grey one is the older edition? Apologies if I am wrong.

Agreed, I'm happier to get back a properly fixed and properly serviced player. Time to toss that warped LD disc in the bin so I don't play it by mistake again!

I'll update this thread when I get more information back or get the player back and set up.

Post subject:  Re: [CLD-D925] E0 Error  Topic is solved

She's been all fixed up, fully serviced and is currently on the way back to me! Hopefully I'll get my little 925 back at some stage this week.

The repair person sent these snaps to me. I'll take some snaps of the inside if I feel brave enough to open the player again. Don't want to tempt fate! I'll post again once it's back in it's rightful home in my AV cabinet and I've spun a few platters in it. :D

Question. What are the 'Control' ports for?

Leave it closed.

It allows you to control the player from a separate Pioneer component.

That is one very clean looking D925 Ted; in fact it looks absolutely like new, no wonder you were so upset when you accidentally fed it that bad disc to chew on!

Seriously agree with that sound advice from @cplusplus though....

Specifically, I think it just transmits the IR signals through the cable so you could for example have all your components hidden inside a cabinet except for one and all the IR signals would be received by that one and sent to the others.

I don't think they even need to be Pioneer models?

Really pleased to hear that news.

I hope when she is back in your hands all is as good as new & you are spinning your LDs for many years to come.

I would be gutted if my 925 ever went south.

Enjoy your "new" 925

Wow those do look similar! Is the D590 NTSC only? I keep thinking of getting a pure NTSC player but to be honest, the 925 does all I need it to. Both sides play, NTSC and PAL, a remote control with a jog wheel and finally AC-3 output. Ticks every single box I need.

Question. I've yet to try the S-Video output on the 925. I've read here and there that it isn't that good? Anyone tried and can confirm? Thinking of investing in a good quality S-Video cable.
