Do you have the remote?? Seems like something was selected and you need the remote to unselect it. Sorry about that, I was just curious if anyone knew how to clear that off the screen. I do have the remote, but none of the buttons seem to make that go away. It does not show up when playing a disc unless you hit the display button and always shows when the disc is stopped.

In the world of laserdisc players, if it ain't really broke, don't fix it. It still might be worth it to eject the tray, unplug the power and take a look inside. See if there is anything loose in the player or any capacitors that are leaking. For the record, IC405 (PD0093A) is the character generator chip. Video in on pin 17, video out on pin 15.

I just did some quick research and this is a 30 pin IC which means it has very large pins that would be easy to re-solder assuming the possibility of cold solder joints causing this issue. The only difficulty would be gaining access to the bottom of the chip as you may have to remove the entire mechanical assembly to reach it.
