Post subject:  [CLD-D704] Support?

2 potential issues (everything else seems to work great):

A On Stop/Eject, panel or remote, system seems to take 25 seconds to follow command.
I hear it stop, 25 seconds later a click and eject.
(I thought pad/grip, but not for 25 secs... cleaned it anyway.)

B I have to be very particular with setting LD in tray hole. It will always work after a rejection and re-command Play without touching it, but often not on first tray insertion. (Maybe the system wiggles it in tray, why I started settling better in hole.) When it doesn't work, it makes a high pitched noise, I call it a Toshiba noise like an industrial motor drive, before ejection.

Anyone know these symptoms?
Just the way they work?

THX

Typical 704 issues with old loading belt and old grip ring. Some disc can take one minute to spin down before the player will perform any other functions. By now the grip ring is too old to just be cleaned, it needs to be replaced using the VEB1237 found on eBay or cleaning it and coating it with Plasti-Dip. Buy a SCQ2.8 belt from the internet and replace the load belt.

OK - in touch with Ethan

I have this 704, and a DVL909 and a Denon LA2300 (rumored 515 clone).
The last 2 have white rings - looks and feels like compressed Styrofoam-like product?
Would these replacements rings be appropriate for all 3 players (trying to consolidate order)?

THX again

Post subject:  Re: [CLD-D704] Support? UPDATE?

Partial progress....

I got the grip rings from Ethan, seem to be of very consistent quality, got one on, but...

The belt (SCQ2.8 seems way too small - both length and thickness.
It (the new one) measures about 2.8 circumference, gently on my calipers, about a quarter.
My old one near the old grip ring.

Is there a better choice for the belt?

Have you ever change a belt on a car, its pretty amazing how much things like this stretch out when comparing old to new.

I think my car belt while still working but cracked was about 1 inch larger than the new one.

If you can't get it on then that would be another story, but should be fine.
Kurtis knows what he's talking about, unless a key slipped when typing.

Here is a belt comparison from a Mitsubishi, M-V7057 (704 clone). You be the judge if the newer belt seems to be the correct size.

This player uses the same belt as every Pioneer player from 1992 on. VEB1184, which is a SCQ3.6.

Sorry for the typo, I meant SCQ3.8

So is it SCQ3.6 or SCQ3.8 ?

My existing belt (of unknown provenance) seems to be about .062 square, and about 4.4 in circumference.

Here in place:

Should I try 3.6 vs 3.8 next and is SCQ a correct prefix?

Both will "technically" work, but the 3.8 belt will fail more quickly as it wears out.

blam1 - as it wears out ?

So - I 'needed' 2, so I ordered one of each - a 3.6 and a 3.8, BOTH sellers fumbled, only 1 here so far...

I am basically 'repairing' a 704 for sale, per previous complaint.

I also notice the newish belt crossover exchanges the Pio part for a 4.0 belt?

Likely all would work, and 3.6 would last longest or shortest?
(I don't 'know' pure rubber, non-fiber belts.)

I would guess....
3.6 initially stretched to fit would be slimmer in use, and fail to critical thinness fastest.
4.0 would remain 'fattest' in initial use, and last longest...?

Overall - do belts wear thin or stretch out thin due to repeated torque?

THX any, all....

They do indeed. I changed the belt in my 925 not too long ago and the replacement was much smaller/tighter. The old one had stretched and become loose over time, not providing the right torque.

Was the failure length change or thinning?

Post subject:  Re: [CLD-D704] Support?

Had the same issue on my DVD/Bluray player, belt got old, when old it gets larger like a car belt
and you need to replace.

I actually replaced with one that was the same size, it works but next time I'll get the correct size a slightly bit smaller.

I take it you've never had this issue before with LP turntables, Tapedecks, VCRs, Automobiles etc.

Yes it had stretched over time and became thinner and more loose. Eventually not providing any torque.

Nope - my experience is hard as a rock or melted, probably attics.

Post subject:  Re: [CLD-D704] Support?

So...

The replacement hub grip ring worked great, after I finally got belt straight (vendor fumble).

The 3.8 was a hair thicker, the 3.6 same as ?OE, tried 3.6, worked so good I left it alone, I will try 3.8 on another later.
So I can confirm the 3.6 for 704 mech - I won't know about later wear, flipping it out.

THX all!
