So only CD will skip or both CD and LD?

Either way, sounds like a centering issue to me but that’s just a guess.

These are some of the harder to fix players, I hope you can fix it or pass it along to someone rather than trash it.

They are nice players and I still run mine.

Yes indeed.

The Side A centering adjustment is under the player, so you have to stand the feet up on something to get to it.

You will need to first create a "L-shaped eccentric screwdriver" that matches GGV-129 close enough. Next, there are two recessed screws to loosen. From there you can adjust Side A centering with GGV-129.

My CLD-3030 gave me similar symtoms when I bought it used (little brother of the CLD-3070, but single sided). Was told the player wasn't working, but it partially worked out of the box. My symptoms were that I had trouble skipping tracks on laserdiscs, but after a couple of use it seemed to fix itself and I could skip tracks without any hassle. Been a long time since I used it, so it might exhibit the same symptoms again now. Not that it solves your problem, but I would at least check the discs in other players to verify if it really needs adjustments. As Rein-O says, these are some of the harder to fix players.
It could be the centering adjustment, but also tracking might be slightly off?

Could also be the old grease issue, dried up and becomes sticky.

Yeah I have a LD-V2200 that did the same. Never looked into it though.

1: a player that hasn’t fired up in years may have issues that work themselves out just by using the machine.

2: a better CD player than this costs $10. I would concentrate on LD playback. Get some LDs, if they play without skipping then please DON’T TOUCH ANY ADJUSTMENTS.

3: you aren’t the first owner of this machine, please think of the next guy. Don’t cause it to end with you. Don’t mail it, don’t adjust anything you don’t understand.

This really is the truth.

The two most preventable forms of LD player death:
1. Shipping
2. "Adjusting" things you don't fully understand

I have seen a lot of crazy things once someone opens a player so I am very cautious when I purchase something broken that I think might have been "worked on". Anywhere from sprayed lithium grease all over the inside or all the VRs have been turned far left or far right (and of course even the electrical ones).
