Hi everyone, first time posting here, hoping someone can help me out a bit.

Received a CLD-97 today which powers up fine, but when a disc is inserted (LD and CDs) they don't play. LDs will start to spin for a second and then stop spinning and after about 20 seconds the tray will eject itself.

If I try playing side B, the mechanism turns and the disc spins continually but nothing plays and the display keeps showing the animation as if the mechanism is still turning while the laser seems get locked in some sort of loop.

Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks!

Hi, welcome.

Sounds like one of the mechanical adjustments are off.

I'd put it into test mode and start halfway through a disc to see if you can get any video. This is an expensive player and I've seen people (somehow) fry their players trying to get it into test mode so proceed at your own risk.

Thanks, how would I go about getting it into test mode if necessary?

I posted a video of what it does when trying to play Side B on Reddit:

It is covered in the service manual here: https://manuals.lddb.com/LD_Players/Pioneer/CLD/CLD-97/

Sounds like the lens is hitting the disc because the focus servo is way off, but Kurtis would definitely know more than me. I would not continue trying to operate it and send this for repair. I have heard there is someone in UK that will still take repairs.

Really? Yeah if there was someone in the UK that could repair it I'd much rather go down that route, as I really haven't got a clue what I'm doing.

So if there is and someone knows who, please let me know!
