Hi Everyone. Looooooong time lurker.
My CLD-59 has always had this issue, so I figured I would finally ask for help.

It plays movies beautifully once I get it going. Flip works just fine.

The problem is after you close the tray with a disc it struggles to engage the disc. A nice hard tap works every time. I've taken it apart and cleaned/lubricated everything. I've changed the belt.
I can't get great visibility to it, but the piece that moves up to engage the disc is just stubborn.

Any suggestions?

Hi, welcome.

Are you saying that after the disc is inserted, the optical assembly struggles to move to the inner starting area of the disc? Does chapter seek work ok?

Chapter seeking and playback is 100% normal.

Open Tray
Insert Disc
Close Tray
Cannot clamp disc?. Disc does not attempt to spin. Just a persistent whirr of something to engage.
Give it a whack, something engages.
Everything works 100% normally from then on. Flip, Chapter seek, pause, etc.

If I do not give it a whack, it will eventually spit the disc back out.

I was trying to tell if your M-Holder is broken, but it sounds like loading belt to me. VEB1184. SCQ3.8 is the generic equivalent.

I had recently replaced the belt, but I went ahead and replaced it with another one I had. They were both from the same pack, but this one seemed to be a mm or 2mm different.
It's working like new again. Hopefully it hasn't become accustomed to the S&M routine. No more whacking.
