I have a CLD-D604 where the pickup gets stuck on the part where the bottom metal rail meets the black guide. Does anyone know what might cause this? I've taken the pickup out, cleaned and regreased everything and it still gets stuck. I can move it past by tinkering with it by hand, but it still stops during operation.

Might be a broken Motorholder.
You can't always see it since the rod that drives the gear can snap inside the gear.
this is why it could get stuck trying to move upwards. it gets out of allignment at the end of the rod.

Just saying....
had this issue with several other ones.

It was already broken on this unit and I replaced it with a DVL motor holder. After I installed it, it got caught so I took the motor holder back off and was sliding the pickup across it with my fingers and the pickup still got caught :( .

Not sure if this pic of my CLD-59 will help. Wished I got a better angle of the assembly.

Thanks ldfan.

I put the M-Holder back on just to see if I had it miss-aligned the first time and it still gets completely stuck. Moving the pickup with the remote in test mode, I also have to turn the worm gear to help it move past that spot.

There should be absolutely no play in the joint between the metal bar and the black plastic keeper that holds the bar in place and guides it into the turn mechanism. I have seen that black keeper snap off and the bar can wiggle back and forth, causing the binding you describe.

If this is broken, you can clean all of the grease off the area, insure it's absolutely clean and then glue the black attach point to the player assembly. If it is broken, and it won't repair, the entire base assembly has to be replaced as that clip cannot be replaced on its own.

Is it catching at the metal rod transitioning to the black plastic piece or does it catch at the transition from the black piece to the white plastic guiding the pickup during the turn? I agree if the black piece is floating and not solid it will cause issues.

The black piece seems good. I think it might be the white plastic guiding piece after slightly moving it around. Part 16 in the attached photo.

I resolved the issue. I reseated the top plate of the mechanism thats held on by four screws and the plastic turn guide that is held by one screw. I guess it must have been ever so slightly out of alignment.

Was the plastic track seated properly in the notch in the top?

I'm pretty sure it was, but the plate that it was connected to was probably not.
