I won a CLD-D505 off an auction (it's going to be a long time before I can ship my Japanese players and I gave the CLD-D501 to a friend after I couldn't get it to play a disc, so I don't have a LD player temporarily) and it's in good condition...except for the fact that the Pioneer badge is completely missing.

Is there anywhere I can get a replacement badge? I don't really want to buy a Pioneer cassette deck or CD changer from a thrift store just to steal the badge off of it.

I might have one somewhere I can look for. I'd make sure it survives shipping first though if it hasn't arrived yet. It has one of the fragile M-Holders.

[CLD-D505] Error E0

Yeah, the listing mentioned something about it not powering on and I wonder if it's an actual power problem or that error E0 from a bad M-Holder. I guess I'll know when I receive it.

Both are likely since the later model power supplies are sketchy. Not hard fixes though. M-Holder on the other hand you would need a donor DVL at this point.

Let me guess, bad capacitors? I dunno what it is but there was just an epidemic of bad capacitors in the 90s, Macintosh computers of the time had surface-mount ones that leaked like crazy and those Elna through-hole caps used in all kinds of stuff also seem to be infamous for leaking.

Yeah if there is no standby light and the fuses are good, it is likely a small capacitor on the primary side that is the problem.

The only caps I have seen with visible problems in Pioneer units have been the Elna supercapacitors on the main boards of the CLD-3090 to CLD-D702 chassis. I'm not sure if all of those models are affected though. I've replaced a few and didn't document which ones.

I have the same problem with my D925. I saw someone on ebay at least back in April or May sell a badge. That probably was the right size for my D925 and probably also for your D505. It however cost something like 20 euros. So if you think a badge is worth that you can look for it I guess.

Well if C++ doesn't have one I'll rip it off my 503 for the right price

I have a handful of badges I've rescued from players I've salvaged. Send me a PM.

Will do! Well...once I receive the player, that is.

I finally received the player today, it definitely doesn't power on at all. It also has a karaoke disc stuck inside it. I took some pictures of what I assume is the M-Holder in hopes that someone can tell me whether it's intact or not, but in the meantime I need to manually eject the tray and look for a potentially blown fuse.

EDIT: Yeah, that fuse on the power board is catastrophically blown. Yikes! Ignore the green bit, that seems to be marker, but the dark gray is definitely not normal for a fuse.

M-Holder will be on the "carriage assembly" (laser) with a motor attached to it. Probably grey plastic on this model. Hard to tell if they are broken without attempting to operate the unit, since it is the gear-holding pins on the inside that break.

You need to manually eject the tray by turning the pulley the loading belt is attached to. If the fuse is blown in the power supply, clip out the arc suppressor. Probably looks like a large diode with a yellow band (possibly D6 if like the CLD-D604). If the glass fuse is not blown, check the non-glass fuses (prefixed with F on the board) for continuity but it is probably a small cap that has gone bad on the primary side if there is no standby light. Just replace all electrolytics in the power supply in that case.

Yeah, I ended up getting the disc out by using the pulley. The glass fuse in the power supply is extremely blown, as seen here:

I have a part labeled "D105" that looks like a large diode with a yellow band and it's stamped "5N", though there seems to be at least one digit not visible. Removing that and replacing the fuse will get me power again?

Fingers crossed, unless it is something else blowing it.

Does anyone know of a suitable replacement for these? I have been looking at TVS diodes.

...you’re going to take that sticker off, right?

I can’t believe you even noticed the badge was missing with that goofy in store demo badge huge as can be on the front.

Nope! I actually like cheesy old stickers like that. My old Windows 95/98 computers still have their stickers too.

All right! Clipping that diode and replacing the fuse did it! I haven't tested video output quite yet but I'm getting power, both trays eject, and when I put a disc in and hit Play it spins up.

Now I just need that missing badge...

I just repaired this model. M-Holder completely destroyed and got all mangled up in the "FFC style spring VBH1270" that holds the ribbon cable. It would have been an easy (but tedious) fix but I had to pull out the entire servo mechanism to reseat it. Some how the unit is still perfectly adjusted with no crosstalk .

How much are you willing to pay :ugeek:

I'll take it off my player and sell it to you whenever you're ready :ugeek:

Oh sorry, I actually bought one from blam1 already! I guess the next thing I need is a remote, I've had no luck with that yet.
