Open up the player, load a 12" disc, press play, and then use your fingers to lift the transport mechanism to see if it helps w/ the clamping process to allow playback.

If the player appears to be more consistent getting into play, you either need a new load belt as the one you have is a tad too large in diameter or possibly you need to clean w/ alcohol the belt and gear parts that touch the belt to ensure there are no oils present that would contribute to slipping.

Finally the problem was solved by cleaning changing the load belt and cleaning the gears where the belt is located. The laser lens was also cleaned.

The unit has been working perfectly for a while now. It only has two small problems:

1-Sometimes it is difficult to change chapters if the jump to take is big, or it takes a long time.

2-some display problem with some chapter of some movies.
