Hi there,

My Pioneer CLD-D925 shows always "No Disc" , no matter if an CD or LD is inserted.
Maybe a Problem with the Laser Pickup?
Is there anyone in Europe left, who can repair a Pioneer CLD-D925?

Regards,
Thomas

Hi Thomas,

Did you try operating your 925 with the top casing removed just to see what is happening during the disc loading process?

Hi,

yes , i tried without casing.
The Disc loads , then the Laser moves up and down two times , then Message "No Disc" is shown.
It seems the moving of the Pickup works, but it gets no Reflection from the Disc Surface.
Maybe the Laser itself is broken?

Thomas

As an unqualified person I'd be inclined to agree; but perhaps there is also a possibility that there could be a problem somewhere in the electronics that control the laser pickup? There are several extremely knowledgeable people on here who will hopefully pickup on your post soon and advise you much better than I

On the subject of LD specialists in Europe; I do know of a very good one but unfortunately he resides in England and sadly because of this brexit stupidity we've had inflicted on us I don't know what the current situation is regarding duties/fees etc when shipping in/out of the EU

In the meantime I wish you all the best in solving your 925 issue and fingers crossed it won't be the laser-pickup that is in need of replacement.

Edit: Just found this in Germany, I notice LD players are mentioned so may be worth a try?

What happens you put a disc in the tray and only hit the Side B button on the front of the player?

Same behavior when Side B is pressed. Laser goes up/down for two Times, "No Disc" Message.
It doesn´t try to move to the upper Side of the Disc.

Yeah, Brexit makes things more complicated :-(

That sounds like a good find, if you can find someone locally who is competent with LD players it may be a good move to have him check things over first though just to confirm that the fault does actually lie with the optical block and not elsewhere. If a new pickup is fitted it will no doubt need to be fully calibrated after installation so definitely a job for someone who is fully experienced in this.

Good Luck and hope all works out well

This sounds like a bad pickup. It can also occur from the tangential adjustment being off, but that is unlikely to be the cause unless the pickup has been replaced or someone has been mucking with the adjustment.

Easiest thing to do is find another pickup. Pickups from most any player built after 1996 will work, including the LD pickup from a DVL player. The difference are in the plastic attachments on the pickup for each player. You'll need to move them around if you get a pickup from a DVL player or a single-sided CLD player.

Update on the Journey to get the D925 repaired :-)
The Spare Pickup arrived last week from AliExpress , looks good.
It seems, that it is a New Old Stock Part.
Still searching for a Company, which can replace and calibrate the Pickup Block.
I have 2-3 Contacts in Germany. I´ll keep the Community updated

Thomas

@cplusplus

Yes, it came with this grey plastic on it.
Update:
I send the Player to an german HiFi Service Center ( Geissler HiFi Service).
They replaced the Laser Block i provided (the Spare Part from AliExpress) , an then returned to me, that the new Block can´t be adjusted,
so i got the Player back with the same "No Disc" Error.

That is the issue. A lot of people can swap them out, but few can actually adjust the unit afterwards.

This could also be a situation of something on the main board failing.

You can try turning up focus gain to see if you can at least get it to stop saying "No Disc" and verify pickup is good.

I tried to adjust the "Focus Gain" , but no Luck.
Still "No Disc" Message.
I´ll give up to get the Player repaired, i put it beside for Spare Parts for my working D925.
It seems the Knowledge in repairing/adjusting LD Players in Central Europe is lost.

Really sorry to hear this; and especially so when you’ve spent many €s not just on the new pickup but also on expensive shipping to/from another EU state, would hope they didn’t charge you too much for the unsuccessful repair work on top of everything else!

Worth a shot. Make sure to turn it back down.

Can you see any red light on the lens when it tries to detect a disc? (Don't look directly into it.)

I'm wondering if the power to the pickup has failed or something similar.

Maybe you could try to change all capacitors from the power board. I'm currently trying to repair a CLD 925 by changing the small grey motor carrier which was broken and I have the same issues... No time for that this week but I'm going to change capacitors as soon as possible ans check if it works. I feel it is a matter of power with the problèm of drying capacitors... I'll come back to tell you if or works ;)

Hello, I have a pioneer cld-2950 player with a similar problem. Sometimes when inserting a movie it does not recognize the disc (no disc) or when pressing play the tray opens. It's something that doesn't always happen and seems to depend on the type of disc (although apparently all movies are the same to me, I don't know if some discs are heavier or bulkier than others and if that can influence). Sometimes it never happens, sometimes on the second try it already recognizes the movie on laserdisc or the music cd. Apparently everything seems normal inside, including the adjustments that are made when inserting a disc. Can anyone help? Thank you very much

Your issue sounds like a stretched loading belt. You'll need to order a VEB1184 or equivalent.
