Post subject:  [CLD-2070] Dim Florescent Display

I received a CLD-2070 that has probably been sitting for at least 20 years. I rebuilt the loading assembly (it was completely locked up) and cleaned up some minor crosstalk on Side B, but now I notice that the front florescent display has become dim. Does anyone have any experience with this on the CLD-2070/3070/91/92?

I'm assuming bad electrolytics, but I want to see if this is a known issue first.

I had the display on my CLD-3030 have a dimming effect (fade to dark and back on with various brightness levels) that was due to cold solder joints on the display board itself. I re-soldered all connections that connected to the display unit along w/ the connections that led back to the ribbon cable. I haven't had an issue since then.

It is a bit tough to solder while the board is inside the door so I do recommend removing the board from it to work on.

Thanks, I'll check that.

I found this very cooked section by CN101 which runs to CNKB. Looks like D16,17, R16,17, C24, and Q22 have to go .

D16, R16,17 measured good.

Replaced D17 with 1N4735A and found a 2SB1185-F for Q22 and it is back in business! I'll need to leave it running for an extended period of time though to make sure the issue is properly resolved and it isn't going to meltdown again.
