I have a CLD-D702 with the symptom of "Will play LD but not CD".

I adjusted centering and CDs were playing fine, but this unit has two centering screws. The second one (closest to the front of the player) was loose so I went to tighten it which threw off centering again.

Does anyone have any suggestions or advice for centering on this chassis?

Normally the one toward the back adjusts the centering and the one toward the front locks in the adjustment.

Thanks Kurtis. I think the issue is the servos need adjusting too. The tilt sensor screw was way off. Maybe once I get everything readjusted that will give me a larger window to center on.

Good lord. This has to be a situation where someone was randomly turning the VRs.

One thing I noticed in this player is someone touched their iron to the tilt offset VR. I've only ever seen this done to the electrical adjustments. Tilt offset measurement is nowhere near the 0VDC the SM wants and I can't get it there. I've gone through everything else so far with just focus and tracking gain left. Dialed them in by ear, but I need to dig out the AF oscillator to perfect them. Hopefully it will be good to go after that.

Touching the soldering iron to a VR after the factory adjustment was made is an older practice done to electronics. This is done on CLD-97's too.

Maybe this one was a little more heavy handed for me to actually notice. I guess I do recall the servo VRs having a "pop" the first time I turned them on the X070s.

Do you know why they stopped doing the XY Lissajous checks starting with Epsilon turn players? i.e. XY (tracking error + tracking sum) Lissajous figure check for centering vs just tracking error waveform

Was this just to make them easier to adjust or is there something I'm not understanding?
