I picked up a CLD-D504 that won't power on. The fuse is blown. I was told the player got wet in storage. No water damage is visible. I've downloaded the service manual. There are no markings on the fuse nor the PCB, nor the service manual as to if this is a fast or slow blowing fuse. Since its where the AC cord attaches to the power supply PCB, I'm assuming its slow blow. Anyway, I need to inspect the boards for damaged parts, but I need to get the LD tray out of the way. Problem is if I rotate the gear to open the door, the CD tray opens, and not the LD tray. Anyone know how to get the LD tray open rather than the CD tray? Thanks!

Check D6. If it shows continuity clip it out and replace fuse with fast blow.

D6 can supposedly be replaced with K1V24, but I've never tried it.

Eject LD tray by applying pressure to #4 CD Plate VNL1685 (white plastic piece) while turning pulley.

Thanks! Are you psychic?! Lol. I was able to remove the power board last night without opening the drawer (seems the two pcb's in this player were designed to be removed without removing drawer assembly) and I measured D6 and it does show continuity in both directions. I ordered some slow blow fuses last night. I had read that slow blow was ok if the fuse was where the raw ac entered the device due to possible voltage surge. That sound ok? Thanks a bunch for your help!!

Common issue krbahr posted about here, but this issue goes all the way back to the mid 90s. D6 rating is too low.

Not sure if slow blow is ok, but the one in the CLD-D604 power supply I have lying around looks medium blow.

Ahhhh. Thank u so much! I'll search for that post. I'm at work so I can do anything now but I do see K1V4....(can't see the rest) on D6. I see variations of the K1V24 replacement part. Can u tell me the exact part number of will any of them do? Any place u recommend I order from? Thanks!!!!

I'm not sure, as I have never replaced D6. K1V24 was from some old service data.

Unit will operate fine without it, so maybe after you ensure the rest of it works you can order it and install if you think it needs it.

Thanks!!! Going to run by Home Depot later and get the fuse and clip this part to see if I can get this running tonight. The player is in clean condition and came with a short stack of movies for $50 total. Lol.

D6 is just a cheap surge suppressor design and it shorts out to blow the fuse it a power surge is detected, I was told that Pioneer said they used too small of a breakdown voltage for the part chosen, it should have been higher. The better solution is clip D6 out and buy a wall adapter or power strip with surge protection.

So when I got the player to power on after clipping that D6 diode, I first tried to play a cd. Drawer would close and then you could hear a high pitched motor sound that would last about 10 seconds, the cd wouldn't spin, and the cd would eject itself. After a few attempts I figured I'd try a laserdisc. Same thing happened with the laserdisc except after a few attempts it finally played. So now it seems that the first time I try to play a disc it will make the noise, eject the disc and give me U1 error, but once I insert the disc the second time it will play. Does that sound like a stretched load belt?
