I picked up a CLD-M403. The tray loading gears are out of sync. One of the gears actually popped off due to the stress. I see there's an arrow on the top of the gear, but I don't know how to align it to the other gears. I haven't found a service manual online. Any have the gear alignment instructions? Thanks!!

I don't have the manual and I have tried for some time to find one (not sure why it's so difficult). However, here are a couple of picks of the gears I assume you are looking at.

Since I just completed my M90 mod and haven't set it up w/ my system yet, I'll open it up again and take some more pics of the loading area. I might get it posted by tomorrow or the day after.

Thanks for replying! It's this gear on the main cam. Somehow it got bound up and popped off. The little round clip around the post popped off and I lost it. I did find a similar sized E clip that fits the post. I can't figure out how it goes back on. It has an arrow and the cam has a tiny hole. It seems that if they line up, it works, but then it binds up, makes a terrible grinding noise and pops off. I've drawn an arrow where it mounts to a thin post.
I think if I had some good pics of how your is lined up, I might be able to get it working again. There are three tiny switches that you can see to the top/right of the cam gear. I think these activate the loading motor. Unfortunately you can't see the switches once the drawer closes. The way I had the gear lined up, it seemed to not disengage the loading motor during eject and the motor continued to run, making a nasty noise for a few seconds after the drawer was fully open. And when the drawer closed, it doesn't go al the way in. I have to push it the last 1/2" or so, but I can hear gears grinding and the gear pops off. Very frustrating. I spent about 4 hrs on it tonight. Lol.

Check page 64,65 here: https://manuals.lddb.com/LD_Players/Pio ... /CLD-D702/

I think that is roughly same loading assembly.

Thanks! It does look similar. Looks like the "gear for the loading mechanism" on the 703 that had a gap in it for matching to the arrow in the "follow gear" is to the bottom/right of the "follow gear" whereas on the cldm403, it's to the bottom/left. I'll look closer when I get home. Thanks again:)

I don't think that 702 diagram is going to help. There is no gear that has the gap to line up to that arrow. My cam gear only has one projection. The 702 cam gear has two. I've spent hours and hours trying to get this thing aligned. It is maddening

Thanks! So this is with drawer ejected?
I went on one of those sites and ordered a service menu for the cld-m90 which is supposed to use the same gears as this.

That is correct; tray is in the ejected position.

Also, all the M series players used the same mechanism. Only differences were features and board layouts.

Great! I'll work on it this evening. IF (lol) I get the service manual for the M90 that I ordered last night, I'll pass it along to whomever needs it here :)

That would be awesome!!

This is the only M series player I have and I would be apprehensive to work on it blindly if and when the need comes. Probably the most mechanically complicated machine next to an LD-W1.

I got the service manual for the CLD-M90. Send me you email and I'll send it to you. Unfortunately it looks like the CLD-M403 has one or two additional gears in the loading mechanism versus the M90.

I just got a ton of parts/repair units and one of them is a CLD-M403. I'll try to get some helpful photos for you.

Your photos did the trick! You can't put that gray gear onto the post with the drawer already installed because there isn't room between the tray and the post, BUT if put it on the post loosely, without engaging the teeth with the cam gear, you can install the drawer and then slide the gray gear down the post and then engage the teeth. It finally works!! Thanks again :)

Good to hear you got the player working again. Always great hearing about a player that can avoid the recycling bin  .

Maybe someone could have a look here: [CLD-K1100] Tray does not work properly

It's a different player but with similar loading mechanism.

This information did it for me. The photos along with the remove the grey gear tip. I also ended up loosing my C clip in the process of trying not to loose it. Fortunately, I had another parts rig laying around to salvage a C clip from. Thanks for sharing.
