Post subject:  CLD-R7G side B skipping

After fixing the stuck clamping mechanism, it turned out that this unit is going to need a little more work. It seems that side B sometimes skips back to a few seconds earlier and keeps getting stuck until I press RWD or FWD button. And after the lens moved to side B position when pressing the B button, often it takes too much time to read the disc before playback actually starts. The skipping laser can occur anywhere on the disc. This issue was likely caused by me messing around with the player to get the clamping mechanism unstuck. I may have removed some of the grease or oil on the rail by touching it by hand...

Anyway, this seems to me a rather easy fix and I can already use the unit for one-sided playback.

I got the remote for this player seperately. It's a CU-CLD140 remote with Japanese text for the buttons. Can someone tell me how to access the DNR feature, which I think the R7G has?

I hope others can post, there is a white plastic piece on the top bar? I think that you turn VERY SLIGHTLY to center.

I had this issue with my R7G, you must be playing on side B and turn VERY SMALL AMOUNTS.

This is ONLY if you are 100% sure its centering otherwise you will damage a very good player.

Please make sure and do all repairs at your own risk.

It has been over 8 years since I had to do this and no longer own the player and can't exactly remember where it is but its on the top and you can access it easily.

I don’t know if this helps rein-o but here’s a shot of my R7G with the hood off, maybe if the part is visible here you can point it out to the OP?

Yeah if you take the top plate off or nudge the shaft you can set it off center.

In the attached image, the square is the locking screw and the circle is the adjustment. Notice the yellow locking compound from the factory on the locking screw.

Thanks, I'll have a look at mine tomorrow. Do I have to remove the yellow locking compound?

When I did it it was just the white nylon screw, unless C++ knows different.
Again just very little.
Thanks to both above posting pics.

You loosen black screw slightly (thus breaking compound), then make tiny turns to the white "screw" in the square box. Tighten black screw and if your problem is resolved lock it with fingernail polish or something more proper like Dykem Cross-Check Torque Seal.

An oscilloscope will allow you to set this on the first try by looking at tracking error waveform. If you don't have a scope it is tedious trial and error. After Side B change is complete, it should start playing video quickly and should not hesitate.

That remote is for a R6G which unless im wrong will not have the V-DNR button.

My R7G remote is CU-CLD150.

Using the remote control, enable the jog wheel.

Once enabled, press the DEXT button. That brings up the menu on screen.

Next you can twist the main body of the wheel left or right to navigate the first menu. I usually select custom settings. Next you use the jog wheel dial itself to adjust the settings and the.main wheel body to navigate menus and save etc.

The OSD will tell you what buttons to press.

I have to do my settings every time as I power off my transformer etc when not in use.

Hope this helps.

V-DNR 3D Select button will bring up the menu on screen.
But you can activate D-EXT via the menu

Whoops that's what I meant, thanks.

I've messed around with it. The skipping issue hasn't fully been fixed yet. One disc played for over 30 minutes but then eventually got stuck. My unit did not have locking compound on the black screw. Crosstalk only appears in the video when the laser gets stuck.

About the remote: I can get to a menu where D-EXT is listed, so I don't think I'm going to need another remote.

I haven't been able to fix the skipping issue on side B. Would a cheap oscilloscope from China be good enough for this and where would I have to connect it to the player?

Side A playback is fine. Side B shows no crosstalk, but the lens always gets stuck at one point, I haven't found a "sweet spot". But then, this could be caused by something else, perhaps the metal plate the laser runs on got bent...

Tracking error. Don't forget to turn tilt servo on and tracking servo off.
